Many thanks to the writer of the recent letter ("Do the Math" on 10/29/11) disclosing the city's plans for what he describes as "new horizontal wells". While I am always happy to get any information from the City, I wonder why he fears the Referendum will affect any of the City's activities?
If these wells are planned as oil wells the City has nothing to worry about. It's my understanding the Referendum has no effect on those. If anyone is concerned with the future of any current gas wells, there is also nothing to worry about.
If the City has entered into a business agreement to have Marcellus Shale wells drilled, then the City does have a problem. This Referendum prohibits Marcellus Shale wells in the City and the chemicals and waste products from them. If no Marcellus Shale drilling is planned, the Referendum will have no effect on any City plans or income.
