The EMHS Football team and cheerleaders made their annual trip to Russell Elementary School to have a grilled tailgate luncheon with their second grade penpals on Oct. 20.
and Parade
Sugar Grove Elementary School will hold its annual Halloween parties for classrooms on Monday, Oct. 31, in the afternoon. If weather permits, a parade processional will happen prior to the parties.
Trick or Treating will happen in Sugar Grove Borough on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. Trick-or-Treaters are asked to stop only at homes with the porch lights on.
Soup and Dessert
Fundraiser
Sugar Grove Free Library is once again planning to have its sixth annual soup, dessert and book fundraiser. It will be held at the library on Tuesday, Nov. 8 (Election Day), at 11 a.m. until all supplies are gone. The types of soups will be cheesy potato or vegetable beef. There will also be bread, crackers, and a choice of dessert, donated by some of our best Sugar Grove hometown bakers. Dine in or carry out.
There will also be a book sale with many books and DVDs materials to browse through. The cost for the event is a donation to the library. If you would like more information, or are interested in donating ingredients for the soup or making a dessert, contact the library staff at 489-7872.
Tailgate Day
The Knights varsity football players team up with the second-grade students at Russell Elementary School each year as pen pals during the football season. The players and the students write letters to each other every week. Each year as a special event the Knights travel to Russell for Tailgate day.
This year Tailgate day happened on Thursday, Oct. 20. The football players and senior cheerleaders have the opportunity to sit with their pen pal and friends and eat lunch together. An outdoor grilled tailgate luncheon menu is provided by Aramark Food Services and Chef Justin was on hand to grill. Following lunch at recess time, a time of fun and football activities are provided in the gym for the football players and their new young friends. The second graders attended last week's home game to cheer on their pen pals.
This tradition started more than 34 years ago and even though the teachers and coaches have changed, the program has continued each year. Many of today's varsity players were at one time a second grade pen pal dreaming of playing with the team. Even Coach Penley was a pen pal as a player.
Craft and Vendor Show
Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department will be the place for the Holiday Craft and Vendor show on Saturday, Nov. 19. Three is room for dozens vendors to have tables at the show. Community Lunch
Schedule
A community lunch is provided at the local area churches. The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The second Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
Stamp Class Planned
Sugar Grove Free Library will be hosting "Stamp out the Winter Blues!" greeting card and rubber Stamping classes on Monday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.
At each class, you will create two greeting cards. With the first card you will be using punches, markers, and glitter to create backgrounds. With the second card you will be using stamp positioner and a die cut machine. Techniques include double inking, stamping off, and embossing. The cost ist $6 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. Call 489-7872 to reserve a spot
AMVETS Activities
Sugar Grove AMVETS Post 50 Auxiliary is teaming up with Sugar Grove Elementary School to raise funds for the Warren County Humane Society. The project is called Pocket Change for Pets.
The SGES class that raises the most money will receive a pizza party compliments of the ladies auxiliary.
On Oct. 29 there will be a kids Halloween party starting at 11 a.m. with entertainment by the Bubblegum Machine. Also remember there is bingo every Saturday at 2 p.m. to benefit the veterans programs in the area.
Zumba
Wendy Carrington, a certified Zumba instructor, will be offering classes in the Sugar Grove area. They will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at the Sugar Grove Elementary School from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. and at Lander United Methodist Church on Saturdays at 8 a.m. This fall session will run from now until Nov. 21.

Second Harvest
Food Pantry
Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown St., is the host site for the northern part of Warren County for this program. Second Harvest is the major supplier of food to charitable agencies throughout northwestern Pennsylvania. It obtains products from the organization's warehouse and distribute them to individuals and families facing hard times in 11 counties.
The next Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will be on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Parent Teacher
Conference Day
The Warren County School District will be holding its fall Parent Teachers Conference Day on Monday, Nov. 14. Contact your child's school ahead of time to schedule your appointment to speak with teachers. There will be no regular classes scheduled for students that day.
Harvest Dinner
The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church on Jackson Run Road will be hosting a harvest dinner on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 4 to7 p.m. The cost is a donation and the proceeds will benefit needy local families at Christmas time.

Operation Christmas
Child Shoeboxes
Many churches and organizations in the area are packing shoe boxes to send overseas with Operation Christmas Child. The program is sponsored by the Samaritan's Purse Organization.
Each shoebox packed with simple Christmas gifts and is then shipped overseas to children in need. More than 8 million children received boxes last year. Since 1993, the organization has provided boxes to 130 different countries.
To contribute a shoebox this year, contact a local church or scouting organization for their deadlines. Most boxes will need to be collected by the week of Nov. 14.
