Boy Scout Troop 22

There will be a fundraiser on Saturday at the Youngsville Dollar General from 11:30 until they are sold out. They will offer a hot dog, pop, and chips for $2 and baked sale items will also be available. The troop is raising funds for a future trip.
The First United Methodist Church, with the cornhusk arch, took First Place for the Church division in the Youngsville Corn Festival Parade, not E.U.M. Church Pantry. All of the floats revealed Youngsville's Creative Spirit. The Corn Festival Committee wants to encourage that spirit by providing a different theme each year. They are working on next year already and are open to suggestions.
Youngsville Borough Offices and services will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day. Monday's garbage pick-up will be Tuesday. Tuesday's garbage pick-up will be Wednesday.
Lutheran Lay Renewal
What is the subject of these 2 things - eating together and fellowship?
Nope! It isn't the fair or the Cornfest, as much as those are about eating and fellowship, too. It is a Lutheran Lay Renewal weekend. The event begins Friday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. at Berea Lutheran Church in Pittsfield and spend the weekend visiting with lay leaders from over the United States, sharing meals, prayer and fun together. If you would like to take part call 563-5079 to reserve a spot for Friday night and get details about the rest of the weekend.
Registration is running for any girl in grades 3-6 in the Youngsville area who would like to play in the elementary basketball league. Cost for the league is $20 per player. To register, e-mail email@example.com or call 814-688-6152. Register on or before Sept. 9.
The YHS Alumni Homecoming Committee met at the Conference Room at the Suites at Rouse this past week. They are planning many events for the weekend of Homecoming starting with walking in the parade Thursday night, September 15th. There will be an area for alumni to gather at the football game on Friday night the 16th. Please stop by to say hello and update your contact information with them. A tour will be given of the school starting at 5:30 p.m., come in the side door off the parking lot. They would love to have you join them and other alumni for breakfast at Richard's Restaurant at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning the 17th. A "Cruise In" will be held in the Fire hall parking lot from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with food and refreshments available. Later Saturday night there will be a dinner and a dance. Dinner reservation are requested before September 1st. Call Sam or Becky Walters at 563- 4791 for information. The cost for the dinner is $10 per person. A dance will follow featuring "The Contels" the time is 8:00 p.m. until midnight. The cost for the dance is $10 per person. This is a BYOB event and you are welcome to bring snacks too if you so desire. The Classes of 1966 & 1971 will be joining them for sure with separate areas set up in the fire hall for them to be able to celebrate as a class. Come and have a great time!
Box Top collection
Youngsville Elementary/Middle School will be collecting Box Tops throughout the course of the 2011-2012 school year. Community members are encouraged to collect Box Tops and submit them to the main office. Each box top collected will provide .10 cents to the school. All money collected from the Box Tops will go directly to programs and supplies that benefit students.
Community bus trip
There will be a Fall Excursion on Saturday, October 8th leaving Youngsville area at 8:45 a.m. and attending the Ellicottville Fall Festival, Ten Thousand Vines Winery, Hamburg Casino, and Final Fear Haunted Fairgrounds. There will be drop off at the Casino for those not attending Final Fear and a return to the Casino for those wanting to attend both. The bus trip is $20 and needs to be paid by Sept. 15 to hold your seat. (shopping and food are participates responsibility, there will be a Group Casino special). The ROY organization has purchased the Brokenstraw Grange sign along Route 6. Local Businesses have the opportunity to purchase one of four spaces available under the main sign, first call, first receive space. Weekly space on the sign will be available to businesses for a fee and non-profit organizations can advertise events for free, dates permitting, also first call, first posted. Thanks to their generous sponsorship and commitment to all the young readers in our community, t-shirts were able to be provided to all the "Super-Readers" who reached the top reading-log level in Youngsville Library's 6th Annual Summer Super-Reader program (for kids in grades Kindergarten-12th grade).
"This is the second year that Bob's Garage & Dr. Pikna have been sponsored T-shirts for this wonderful program," stated Library Director Kristy Wallace. "And the Board & I were absolutely thrilled that Youngsville's North West Savings Bank and Whirley Industries also helped make it possible for us [the library] to continue to provide T-shirts to top-readers. We would also like to thank Great Expectations for helping us to stretch those sponsorship dollars so that every kid who deserved a T-shirt, received one!"
"The Super-Reader T-shirt is a top prize that the kids really strive for." Wallace said. "And they work hard to get to that top level too within a six-week time frame."

"Gently used" books, DVDs, and Videos can still be donated to the Youngsville Public Library during regular business hours. Donated items will be used to help raise money for the library at the Annual Used Book Sale next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "The Annual September Used Book Sale is the major fundraising event for the library," stated Library Director Kristy Wallace. "That is why we are so grateful to all the community members who annually donate materials for this sale and/or stop in to support the library by 'purchasing' books. Books are not individually priced, but are 'sold' purely by donation. And all the money raised directly benefits the Youngsville Public Library." In addition to books, DVDs, and videos, the Friends of the Library will have Baked Goods on sale both Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and hot dogs, pop, & water on sale Saturday, September 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. "All the baked goods and hot dog sale items are donated by members of the Friends of the Youngsville Library organization so all money raised by these activities also go directly to the Youngsville Public Library."

The Youngsville Heritage Community Committee will host a 'Public Hanging' at the Allegheny Artistry to launch the reenergized Regional Arts Council of Warren County known as RAC, on Saturday, Sept. 17th from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Local Dignitaries will 'hang' their artwork for a People's Choice Award.
Joanne Oviatt said, "We will sign-up those interested in attending a County-wide meeting to reorganize the group, and also give attendees an opportunity to become a Sponsor of the Arts. The Corn Festival board would like to thank all sponsors, vendors, entertainers, contest and game assistants, parade entries, motorcycle, snowmobile and car enthusiasts, countless volunteers and participants for their help in making this year's festival a success. "We couldn't make it without you," states Cathy Brown, chairperson.
Special thanks to the Youngsville Borough for their support and cooperation, and the firehall members for helping keep the festival safe. The Board is very excited about this year's successful event and is looking forward to 2012. Anyone interested in joining the group, meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at the Allegheny Artistry at 9:30 a.m. They welcome any help, big or small.
Anita Cohan adds, "We are looking for assistance with the 2012 corn maze. The maze has been a top amusement attraction for the event, until this year when the corn field was not available for ROY's use. We are looking for locations and someone to plant the corn in 2012." Youth Hunt 2011
Pheasants Forever is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of pheasant and other wildlife populations in North America. This mission is carried out through habitat improvement, land management, public awareness, and education. The working motto of Pheasants Forever volunteers is "No Child Left Indoors."
This year's Mentored Youth Hunt is Saturday, Oct. 8. Youth can hunt pheasants for a week, October 8th through the 15th. Any youth can hunt the fields, but they need to apply to be set up with a dog and dog handler from this group. The youth hunter and mentor must attend the safety seminar on Oct. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. This seminar is required regardless of whether the youth has participated in this seminar in the past. The safety seminar will be held at the Fox Township Sportsman's Club. The gun that the youth will be expected to use must be brought to this seminar. Ammunition will be provided for the trap shooting. Youth must bring suitable ammunition for the actual hunt. Youth hunters are expected to wear clothing suitable for various outdoor weather conditions on the day of the hunt. Proper footwear and hunter orange clothing that complies with state law must be worn.
Applications will be available after September 15, 2011. Mail completed applications to: Tim Rowan, 125 Federal Street, Brookville, PA 15825. This event will be limited to 45 participants. If the number of applications exceed this number, participants will be given preference in order of receipt of their application with the exception that first time participants will be given first priority for selection. All applicants must be between the ages of 12-16 and have passed a Pennsylvania Game Commission approved hunter-trapper education program. Youth must bring a copy of their PGC hunter-trapper certificate or their current hunting license to the safety seminar. No hunting license however is required for this hunt.
