First day of school

Volleyball Team
Fall Sports are gearing up for another season. Pictured here the Knights Volleyball Team is working hard at an afternoon practice.

Plans are underway for the busy start of another school year. The first day of school for students in the Warren County School District will be Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Vacation Bible School

The Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley will be holding their Vacation Bible School Aug. 22 through the 26 each day from 9:30 a.m. - noon. This year's program will again feature the music of the Go Fish Guys.

Praise in the Park

The Sugar Grove Community will be holding a Praise and Worship service in the Sugar Grove Park on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. The Praise band " For Word Motion" will provide contemporary music along with featured speaker Andy Frudd the youth pastor from the Bemus Point United Methodist Church. This service is designed for all ages and everyone is invited. Please bring a friend and join us for an incredible evening of praise and worship in the park.

Lunch schedule

A community lunch is provided at the local area churches. The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The 2nd Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church will also be having a community lunch on the 4th Monday of the month starting at 11:30 a.m. Their first luncheon will be held on February 28th. All are invited to attend.

Food distribution

The Second Harvest Food Bank distribution supplied food to 131 families during the scheduled distribution day on Saturday, Aug. 19. The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church located at 210 Jamestown Street is the host site for the Northern part of Warren County for this program. Second Harvest is the major supplier of food to charitable agencies throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania. They obtain products from the organization's warehouse and distribute them to individuals and families facing hard times in 11 counties. The next food distribution will be on October 1st.

Freedom Walk

The Sugar Grove community will be participating in the Nationwide America supports You Freedom Walk on Sept. 11 to remember 9-11 victims and honor military past and present who protect American's freedom. Sugar Grove will join cities across America to host an America Supports You Freedom Walk. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, is the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks against the United States

The 2011 "America Supports You Freedom Walk" sponsored by AMVETS and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary will begin at the Sugar Grove Town Park at 1 p.m. The walk will be held rain or shine. Anyone and everyone, all ages, are encouraged to attend. The purpose of the Freedom Walk is to establish a national tradition to reflect on the lives lost on Sept. 11th and to renew our commitment to freedom and the values of our country and to honor our veterans, past and present. Please plan to join us.

Back to School

Cookout

The new EMHS Middle School PTO will be hosting a Back To School Orientation and Cookout on Saturday for the incoming 6th and 7th grades at EMHS. From 10 11 a.m. there will be an orientation for all 6th and 7th graders followed by the first Middle School PTO meeting at 11 a.m. The cookout and a time to meet the faculty will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the EMHS courtyard for everyone in grades 6-8.

Please bring a dish to pass. Hamburgers, hotdogs, and lemonade will be provided. Anyone who would like more information on the new middle level PTO or would like to get involved can contact the EMHS Office or PTO President Todd Venman.

Blue and Gold

Fall Sports are well underway at Eisenhower High School. Get out your Blue and Gold and come out to cheer on our teams.

The Eisenhower Knights Varsity Football Team will travel to Conneaut Valley for a scrimmage match on Saturday, Aug. 27.

The Knights Golf Season is in full swing with a match against Warren on Aug. 29.

The Knights Girls Soccer will have an away scrimmage with Corry on Aug. 31st. The Boys Soccer will scrimmage with St. Mary's on Sept. 1.

Energy for Life

Walkathon

Sunday, Sept. 18th the Sugar Grove AMVETS Post 50 will host an Energy for Life Walkathon 5K or 1-mile walk. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and the walk will start at 11 a.m. A barbeque will immediately follow the walk. For more information log onto www.energyforlifewalk.org/northwesternpa. The walk benefits the Northwestern PA Group of the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
