Vacation Bible School
The Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located on the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street has had a great time hosting their Summer Vacation Bible school for children. This year's theme is SonSurf. Everyone was invited to come on out and join in for a surfing good time. Tonight will be the VBS Open House at 7:30 p.m. where the kids can show off their accomplishments from the week to their families.
Movie Night
The Warren County Outdoor Movie series sponsored by the Council on Tourism and the Warren County's Visitor Bureau will be at the Sugar Grove Community Park this evening. The movie showing will be Gnome and Juliet , a computer animated family eater. The movie starts at 9 p.m. and should end by about 10:30 p.m. Bring your own snacks, chairs, blankets, and join us for a fun outdoor movie night in the park.
Summer Day Camp
Sugar Grove Summer Day Camp at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church comes to a close in this week with their last camp for the summer. This is Wet and Wild Water Week.
First day of school
Plans are underway for the busy start of another school year. The first day of school for students in the Warren County School District will be Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Vacation Bible School
The Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley will be holding its Vacation Bible School Aug. 22 to 26 each day from 9:30 a.m. to noon.This year's program will again feature the music of the Go Fish Guys.
In a world that is always searching for the "next big thing", some things will never change and can never be improved upon. God, His Promises, His Word, and the Gospel are unchangeable which is why the Go Fish Guys invite you to kick it old school with their Vacation Bible School.
Lunch schedule
A community lunch is provided at the local area churches. The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The 2nd Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church will also be having a community lunch on the 4th Monday of the month starting at 11:30 a.m. Their first luncheon will be held on February 28th. All are invited to attend.
Food distribution
The Second Harvest Food Bank distribution from it's mobile food pantry will be held on Saturday. The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church located at 210 Jamestown Street is the host site for the northern part of Warren County for this program. Second Harvest is the major supplier of food to charitable agencies throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania. They obtain products from the organization's warehouse and distribute them to individuals and families facing hard times in 11 counties. Last month the 42 volunteers moved 7300 pounds of food and the organization provided food to 127 local families.
Fall day care
The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church will open a new ministry to families in the local community. Starting in September they will open a Day Care program for children ages newborn to 5 years of age. The facility will be open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. 6 p.m. and follow the same schedule for holidays as the Warren County School District.
Our new Day Care will operate in the same facility as the currently operating Imaginative Preschool. Children will have the opportunity to enroll in the preschool while attending the day care program and then return to the day care facility.
Prices for the new program will be $20.00 per day per child, $10 per half day per child (4 hours). There is a one time $ 20 registration fee per child. For infants -1 year olds the cost for the program is $25 per day or $12.50 for half day.

Blue and Gold
Fall Sports are well underway at Eisenhower High School.
The Eisenhower Knights Varsity Football Team will take on Sheffield High Wolverines in a scrimmage on the Sheffield field at 10 a.m. Saturday. Today, the team will scrimmage at 6 p.m. on their home field with the Youngsville Eagles and Saturday, Aug. 27, the Varsity Football Team will travel to Conneaut Valley for a scrimmage match.
The Knights golf season is in full swing with the Warren Invitational on Wednesday, Aug. 24, and varsity matches on Monday, Aug. 22, and Aug. 29 against Warren.
The Knights soccer season kicks off with a girls varsity scrimmage against Kane on Monday, Aug. 22, at 4 p.m. and then an away scrimmage with Corry on Aug. 31. The Boys soccer varsity scrimmage with Kane will be Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Best Hat Award
Nicholas Gourley received the award for the creation of the best "crazy" hat at the United Methodist Vacation Bible School this week.
