Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool's Corny Kick Off to the 2011 Corn Festival will be a Community Swim held on Thursday, August 18th from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. DJ RAYRAY is ready to rock with party music. There will also be plenty of food available. Prizes will be given away. Cost is $5 for adults and $4 for students and seniors.

Also, on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 1 to 8 p.m. will be a Swim and the Band 'Leaving September' from 3 to 8 p.m., admission is $5.00. Pool concession stand will be open for food.

The Friends of the BVSP 'Thank You' Picnic scheduled for Sunday, August 21st has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 24th from 1 to 4 p.m..

Sled Show and Swap

2011 Open Sled Show and Swap will be held at Island Park on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in conjunction with the Youngsville Corn Festival. Set-up starts anytime after 8 a.m. Judging will start at noon. Trophies awarded around 3 p.m. Classes are still being organized. This is an open show anything sleds is welcome. Several local dealers will have new and used product on display. Swap open to anything snowmobile related. For more information call Mike at 814/563-7575.

Yee Haw!

Cowboy Church is coming to Youngsville the weekend of the Cornfest. The service will be held at the Davis Street Pavilion Sunday, Aug. 21, at 5 p.m. (different than previous years). Matt Cox of Miracle Mountain Ranch will be on hand to deliver the Message from the Mount. In addition to his horse, Matt will have several other animals along with him. The Free Methodist Praise Team will lead the worship time. Dig out your cowboy boots or your western shirt and join us for a late afternoon Cowboy Church Service.

Parade for Cornfest

The Cornfest's Annual Parade will be on Saturday, Aug. 20, starting at 10:15 a.m.

Those participating that have not turned in their entry form should contact Jean Zock at 814/563-7807 for line up directions and unit location. The parade committee is always looking for yellow, white, or green vehicles for the parade and floats.

Saturday fireworks

This Saturday, Aug. 20, at 9 p.m. find a spot to park, set up a chair, or peer out a window and enjoy the Gibson Fireworks sponsored by Rouse, Friends of the Rouse, and Nelson's Funeral Home.

Sunday music

The Otterbein Praise Band will present a concert in the yard beside the Youngsville First United Methodist Church on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 5 p.m. The group, from the Otterbein Methodist Church, will have an hour of Christian and secular music. Bring your lawn chairs and come listen. Free to the public.

Canoe/Kayak Race

Sunday, Aug. 21, 10 a.m., join in on the Cornfest water fun, race down the scenic Brokenstraw Creek. Race begins at Couvers Crossing " Gypsy Town" bridge (weather and water permitting), race ends in Youngsville at Island Park (Ford St),

parking available at both ends. Prizes will be given for each division:

Canoe - 1st & 2nd place - single person and 1st & 2nd place - tandem

Alumni Homecoming

There will be a meeting at the Rouse on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 6:30 p.m. to recap the plans for Alumni Homecoming weekend, Sept. 15-17. Thursday's Parade and Bonfire, Friday's tour of the YHS and homecoming football game, and Saturday's Alumni breakfast, car cruise-in, dinner and dance all need to have plans finalized. The reservation deadline for the dinner/dance is Sept. 3, the committee appreciates advance reservations to help plan meal numbers. For more information call 814/563-4791 or attend the meeting.

Canoe and Kayak

Poker Run

Steve Morris, Recreation Commission member, announces the Canoe and Kayak Poker Run on Saturday, Aug. 27, (Rain date Aug. 28th) $15 a hand, at Kinzua Dam to Betts Park. Event will benefit the Youngsville Recreation Commission. For information and sign up, contact Scott Nelson 814/563-4046.
