Dinner
Father Matt is going to cook hot dogs and hamburgers for the community dinner, Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church. The summer menu will also include salad, baked beans, and dessert. This is a free dinner to anyone in the community. Donations are accepted. Take outs are available after 5:45.
Fair Week
The 81st Warren County Fair starts Aug. 9. through13. at the Fairgrounds in Pittsfield. Headliner Jake Owen will perform on Tuesday, August 9th at 7:30 p.m. Visit www.warrencountyfair.net for more information.
Lutheran Lay
Renewal
A Lutheran Lay Renewal is a weekend in which lay people from all over the United States come to your congregation for a weekend of Fellowship, Prayer, Renewal, and Spiritual Growth. Saron Lutheran and Berea Lutheran Churches will be having a Lay Renewal weekend this September 9, 10, and 11. YEMS Orientation
Youngsville Elementary/Middle School will hold a Middle Level Orientation for all middle level students on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The following information will be discussed: student schedules, locker assignments, and middle level changes for 2011-2012.
There will be two sessions held for the convenience of students and their parents. Session #1 will begin at 9:00 a.m. Session #2 will begin at 6:00 p.m. Students will need to only attend one of the sessions. Alpha is coming!
Evangelical United Methodist Church at 18 Second Street in Youngsville will begin the Alpha course on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6:00. This ten week practical introduction to the Christian faith offers answers to some key questions. Each weekly session begins with an informal dinner, followed by a large group learning time, and ends with small group discussion and interaction. Alpha began in London and is now held in thousands of churches around the world. Join the thousands who have found answers to their questions about life and God and how they relate. Corn Festival
The committee has been working on the plans for the 6th annual Corn Festival starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 through Sunday, Aug. 21. New this year at Island Park will be the weekend long 'Corny' Maze (replacing the Davis Street maze of past) with wagon rides to and from downtown, and a Haunted 'Corny' Maze is planned for Friday from 9 a.m.-10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be the first Snowmobile Show with vehicles from around the area and lots of awards.
New, and loads of family fun, will be a campout and large screen outdoor movie at Davis Street. Bring your pop-up tent and sleeping bags, watch the Gibson Fireworks, sponsored by the Rouse and Friends of the Rouse at 9 p.m. and watch a movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, sponsored by the Warren County Visitors Bureau and Council on Tourism, starting after the fireworks. Camping is available from Friday at 10 a.m. to Sunday at 6 p.m. Volunteers are still needed for many activities (corn hole tournament, street closings, and contests) please contact a ROY committee member and volunteer now.
Clinic planned
The Youngsville Varsity Girls' Basketball team will be holding an elementary school clinic for any boy or girl in grades 3-6 who would like to play basketball. This is open to any child from any school.
The clinic will be held Aug. 16 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at YEMS. The cost is $30 per participant. Please call 814-688-6152 or email yemsbiddyball@hotmail.com to register.
