High Seas Expedition
The Mission Covenant Church, located at the intersection of Jackson Run and Matthew's Run roads in Sugar Grove, would like to invite kids of the Sugar Grove and Chandler's Valley area to attend Vacation Bible School July 24 to 28. The theme is a High Seas Expedition. Kids are sure to have a swashbuckling good time! The VBS program will be run in the evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Cost is Free. in the Park
The Sugar Grove Borough Council will be sponsoring an afternoon of music and fun in the Park on July 30. After you shop at Sugar Grove Sale Days, come on over to the Sugar Grove Park in the afternoon to hear musicians Steve Johnson and Charity Nuse of The Big Leg Emma Band. They will be performing in the park from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Bring your own lawn chair, refreshments, and plan on staying in the park to hear Steve and Charity.
Alumni reunion
The Annual Chandlers Valley School Alumni Reunion will be Saturday, July 23 from 12:30 3 p.m. at the Community Center. All those who attended the school should mark their calendars to come and share their memories with us.
Tractor run
A group of local farmers and area community members from both PA and NY who own tractors got together for the 3rd Annual Sugar Grove Tractor Run 2011 on Saturday, July 16. The group of 34 tractors met at the home of George Hedlund on Sandstrom Road on Saturday.
Outfitted in their event t-shirts they started out on their annual town tractor run. Three groups of wagon riders joined in the fun and road on hay bales behind various tractors. The route covered approximately 26 miles from start to finish. They traveled on many of the back roads in the community from Sandstrom Road to the finishing point on route 957 with a couple of stops throughout the day.
Many in the community stopped to view the group as it traveled by. There were tractors of all types International, John Deere, Farmall, Fergusons, Ford tractors and more were all a part of this Annual event. Breakdowns were minimal this year and a great time was had by both the event participants and all those who came out to view the processional throughout the day. The oldest tractor this year was a 1946 Farmall.
Job seekers workshop
The Sugar Grove Library will be sponsoring a job seekers workshop on Aug. 3 from 6 8 p.m. The workshop will include information on Local job contact information and local supportive services information, online social networking for finding jobs, interviewing skills, local training and education opportunities, and improving your resume. The class size is small to give more personnel attention to individuals so call the library at 489-7872 to reserve your seat today
Summer Day Camp
Sugar Grove Summer Day Camp at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church is in full swing. This camp has been a service to the community for more than 20 years. The mission of the Summer Day Camp Program is to provide a Christ-centered environment. Both educational and physical fitness activities are provided for children entering Kindergarten through 7th grade this fall. The Day Camp offers different options to campers including full-time, part-time, or drop-in day care services or weekly camp enrollment.
The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church has been granted a license by the state of Pennsylvania for day care services. The Summer Day Camp facilities, program, and staff meet all state regulations for a licensed day care. The Day Camp Program has a ratio of at least one adult to every ten children. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, handicap, ancestry, national origin, age or sex. The facility is open Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m., from June 13th through August 19th, 2011 with the exception of Monday, July 4th when they will be closed. The cost this year will be $20.00 per day per child, $10.00 per half day per child( which is 4 hours) If you have two or more children enrolled, the fee is $18.00 per day, per child for a whole day and $9.00 per half day, per child. There is a $10.00 registration fee per child. Children and their families are asked to participate in some fund raisers to help keep the cost of Day Camp down. Assistance to defray the daily fees of the Summer Day Camp Program is available through the Subsidized Child Day Care Program of Pennsylvania and is now available from New York.
With weekly themes and field trips, there is a lot of activity certain to keep even the most adventurous and energetic children busy and engaged on a hot summer day.
Weekly themes for the rest of the summer program are: July 18th 22nd Go Wild Animal Week, July 25th - 29th Film Fest Movie Week, August 1st - 5th In'tents' Camping Week, August 8th 12th -Storm Chasers Weather Week, August 15th - August 19th - Wet and Wild Water Week

Imaginative Preschool
With the 2010/2011 school year coming to an end it is time to think ahead to fall. The Imaginative Preschool in Sugar Grove is now taking applications for their fall 2011/12 classes. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be three on or before September 1st to enter the 3 year old class. Children must be four on or before September 1st to enter the 4-5 year old class. There are two 4-5 year old classes and one 3 year old class. Classes for 4-5 year olds meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. 11:30 a.m. or Tuesdays & Thursdays from 12:30 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 11:30 a.m. The 3 year old class meets Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30 3 p.m. Class times and schedules are subject to change depending on the need in the community. A tour of the class room, registration information, and a chat with the teachers can be arranged by contacting the school at 489-3105.
Sale Day
Preparations are underway for another fun Sugar Grove Sale Days event. This year Sale Days will be held on Saturday, July 30th. If you would like to secure a spot for your Sale at the Sugar Grove Fire Department, you can reserve that now by calling Amanda at 730-3490 or Bryan at 730-3491. Vendor areas are still open for 1 spot at a cost of $25 or 2 spots at a cost of $45.

The Sugar United Methodist Church is also gearing up for the Annual Sale Days. If you would like to reserve a vendor spot in their yard or parking lot area, please contact 489-3238.
Book sale
The Sugar Grove Free Library will once again have a large book sale on July 30 in conjunction with the Sugar Grove Sale Days event. The price is a $5 donation for a partial or full bag of books. There will be thousands of gently used adult and children's books, used DVD's, VHS, and Books on CD and Cassette. Also the library has room on their grounds to rent spaces to other vendors for the cost of a donation to the library. For more information call 489-7872.
New day care
The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church will open a new ministry to families in the local community. Starting in September they will open a Day Care program for children ages newborn to 5 years of age. The mission of the new Sugar Grove Free Methodist Day Care program is to provide a Christ-centered, safe, affordable, developmentally appropriate environment for children. The focus will be to provide a home like environment that will nurture and stimulate early care and education experiences which promote each child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
The Day Care will offer different options of enrollment: full-time, part-time, or drop-in day care services.

The day care will operate in the same facility as the currently operating Imaginative Preschool. Children will have the opportunity to enroll in the preschool while attending the day care program and then return to the day care facility.
Prices for the new program will be $20 per day per child, $10 per half day per child (4 hours). There is a one time $ 20 registration fee per child. For infants -1 year olds the cost for the program is $25 per day or $12.50 for half day.
Assistance to defray the daily fees of the new program will be available through the Subsidized Child Day Care Program of Pennsylvania and is now available from New York.
The new day care director will be Michelle Cathcart. She and her staff are on hand to answer your questions. Organizers anticipate enrollment spots to fill to capacity so contact the office now to reserve a spot for your child in the day care program. Vacation Bible School
Children are setting sail on the high seas for a swashbuckling good time at Vacation Bible School at the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church. Annual Tractor Ride
Sugar Grove was a stop along the 3rd Annual Tractor Ride on Saturday, July 16. More than 32 tractors and three wagons of riders made the day-long ride on the back roads of the area which traveled through Pennsylvania and New York. Pictured here are just a few of the tractors parked in town during the 11 a.m. break. The oldest tractor this year to make the trip was a 1946 Farmall.
