Movie Monday

Monday Night Movies at the Warren Public Library will continue July 18. This event is free of charge and will begin at 6 p.m. in the Slater Room on the third floor of the library. Thanks to donations, complimentary popcorn will be available. This PG-13 rated, 114 minute film stars Channing Tatum, Donald Sutherland, and Jamie Bellt. A Roman epic adventure, based on the classic novel of the same name, set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain. In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca, Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth. AARP to meet

Local chapter 4297 0f the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will meet at Richard's Restaurant, Youngsville, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, for breakfast. Anyone interested may attend. For a reservation and further information, call 723-7814.

Phlebotomy changed

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the dates and times for the phlebotomy evening course this fall had to be changed. The new dates are August 17-December 21 on Monday and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hi-Ed Council complex in North Warren.

AOC on the move

On Wednesday, July 13, the Allegheny Outdoor Club (AOC) will hike in the Griffis Sculpture Park in East Otto, N.Y.. Participants will meet at the Jamestown Park & Ride at I-86 and North Main Street at 10 a.m. or in the park at the parking lot at 11 a.m. Hikers should bring a sack lunch which we will eat on the grounds. This is an opportunity for hikers to visit a unique display of outdoor art set among ponds, rolling hills, and a forest pathway, while enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Be sure to bring your camera. Admission is $5 or $3 for seniors. For more information, call Jonella Roundtree at 563-6365.

On Thursday, July 14, the AOC will ride bikes in the Russell/Scandia area. Participants will meet at the Russell Post Office at 5:30 p.m. then transport bikes to Priest Hollow Road and ride back to Russell via Hatch Run Road. Films continue

The International Film Series, a special movie event scheduled in conjunction with the Teen/Tween Summer Reading Program at the Warren Public Library, will continue at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, in Slater A on the third floor of the library. This special film series offers participants an opportunity to visit other countries and experience other cultures. This week's PG-13 rated film stars Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp, and Judi Dench. In a tantalizing tale about desire Vianne Rocher and her six-year-old daughter open a chocolate shop in a provincial French village. The townspeople are shocked when Vianne leaves her shop open during Lent, but her confections are too tempting for them to resist, especially for Roux who wants more than sweets from beautiful Vianne. This free film series is open to viewers of all ages, and complimentary popcorn will be served.

Class to lunch

Warren High School Class of 1957 will have lunch at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Eagles Club, Pennsylvania Ave. E., Warren.

Garden board

Warren Garden Club will have a board of directors meeting at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Warren Public Library.

Ostomy support offered

The local chapter of the Ostomy Association will meet at 6 p.m.. Thursday, July 14, at Applebees, Warren Commons, North Warren, for the summer outing.

Retirees to lunch

Women retirees of the Warren County Courthouse will have lunch at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
