Jamestown scored all of the runs it needed in the second inning Tuesday and improved to 3-2 on the young season with a 4-3 victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters at Diethrick Park.
The Jammers will look to complete their first sweep of the season Wednesday before starting a three-game home series with the State College Spikes on Thursday.
Williamsport (2-3) scored a run in the top of the first, but Jamestown would go up for good in the bottom of the second, plating all four of its runs. The onslaught began with Jamestown batters recording five straight hits and putting six straight batters on base.
Rand Smith and Jobduan Morales started with singles and Smith scored on a hit by Ryan McIntyre to tie the game. Viosergy Rosa was up next and he doubled home another run to make it 2-1.
Before the first out of the inning was recorded, Pedro Mendoza had added an RBI single and Marquise Cooper had walked.
Even when the Jammers made outs, they were scoring runs as the fourth tally of the inning scored when Brent Keys grounded into a double play.
The Cutters would score a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings to get within 4-3. Aaron Altherr had an RBI double in the sixth and Kyrell Hudson homered in the seventh. Williamsport threatened again in the eighth, but pitcher Kenneth Toves induced a double play with the bases loaded and one out to end the threat.
Alfredo Buret pitched a perfect ninth for his first save.
Jamestown finished the outing with eight hits. Mendoza had two of them and Keys, Smith, Morales, McIntyre, Rosa and Cooper added one each.
Charles Wier pitched a perfect inning to earn the victory.
