KANE - 4-for-4.
That's how many times Kalil Slaughter qualified for states on Friday at the District 9 Class AA Track and Field Championships at Kane Area High School.
Four is also the number of athletes Sheffield High School will send to the PIAA Championships next weekend in Shippensburg after the 4 x 100 relay team finished first in blistering time.

D9 champs!
Sheffield’s 4 x100 relay team of, from left, in black and orange, Dylan Reynolds, Michael Torres, Eric Allen and Kalil Slaughter, hold the District 9 Class AA championship plaques on the medal stand Friday at Kane Area High School.
From Michael Torres to Dylan Reynolds to Eric Allen to Slaughter - for his second of three D9 titles on the day. Slaughter won two last year.
His coaches will have two more events to keep track of this year in Shippensburg.
Last year, Slaughter didn't make it to the starting line in time for the 200-meter PIAA semifinals, and was forced to scratch from the event. By rule in a no-scratch meet, this meant he had to scratch from his other events - the 100 final, losing a guaranteed state medal.

A sad story to some, but Kalil used it as motivation. He's broken school records in the 100 and 200 and now qualified for states in four events. He won the 100 in 11.32 seconds and 200 in 22.94 seconds on Friday and was second in the long jump in 21 feet, four inches. The top two in each event at the D9 championships automatically advance to states.
He's bringing friends with him this time.
By at least one account, Sheffield's 4 x 100 relay team ran the fastest county time ever in 44.44 seconds at last week's Warren County Track Meet. The Abraxas to Sheffield to Abraxas to Sheffield Wolfpack was seeded first on Friday. "Wolfpack" because Allen didn't know what a Wolverine was when he first was introduced to the team in February.
Reynolds said it took three weeks before he realized what the team might have in the relay. A district championship was the furthest thing from his mind.
The race wasn't really close on Friday as Slaughter pulled away in the last 80 meters.
Sheffield boys track coach Bryan Gould calls them his "gamers," because every goal the foursome has set has been accomplished.
On the other hand, he was nervous as heck on Friday. He knew what Kalil was capable of, but "so many things can go wrong in a relay," he said. "I was nervous about this all week. We wanted this for them so bad."
44.89 seconds later, nerves turned to Torres flexing and dancing for the crowd and Allen smiling from ear to ear. The D9 meet record remains at 44.24 seconds.
Slaughter said his favorite event is the 100-meter dash, which he won easily, but the 4 x 100 relay is "getting up there."
Slaughter was named the meet's Outstanding Boys Track Athlete award. In his last event, he won the 200 in 1/100th of a second over Clarion's Bryce Straffin.
"To win three events and have an athlete qualify for states in a fourth, and have two throwers in the finals, I'm very happy," said Gould, whose school jumped from three district qualifiers last year to 10 this season - all underclassmen.
George Fitch was eighth in the discus at 117 feet, two inches, and Dejuan Leonard seventh in shot put at 40-6 1/2. Both made the finals.
Evan Jamison high-jumped 5-feet, eight inches to tie for seventh and officially finish eighth out of 13.
Reynolds was 16th in the long jump in 18 feet, and 11th in his 100 preliminaries in 12.49 seconds. Chris McManus finished 13th in the 800 in 2:14.72, and Brandon Mill competed in the high jump. Ashley Davidson competed in the girls high jump for Sheffield.
Sheffield's boys team was seventh out of 20 teams.
Kane pole vaulter Patrick Anderson cleared 16 feet, one inch, which is a state Class AA record, and beat the District 9 meet record by over a foot.
