The Annual Sugar Grove Cruise In will take place Friday, May 27.

Fridayand Saturday will be a Sale Days event in Lottsville. Sales will begin at 9 a.m. and continue through 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to stop over and enjoy the numerous sales and food events happening.

Memorial Day

The Community of Sugar Grove and surrounding area are invited to the Annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 30th in the Sugar Grove Town Park starting at 11 a.m. Pennsylvania State Senator, Mary Jo White, will be the guest speaker this year. The service will include members from the Sugar Grove American Legion Post #758 and AMVETS Post #50. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the event to honor our service men and women.

Registration

With the 2010/2011 school year coming to an end it is time to think ahead to fall. The Imaginative Preschool in Sugar Grove is now taking applications for their fall 2011/12 classes. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be three on or before September 1st to enter the 3 year old class. Children must be four on or before September 1st to enter the 4-5 year old class. There are two 4-5 year old classes and one 3 year old class. Classes for 4-5 year olds meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. 11:30 a.m. or Tuesdays & Thursdays from 12:30 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 11:30 a.m. The 3 year old class meets Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30 3 p.m. Class times and schedules are subject to change depending on the need in the community. A tour of the class room, registration information, and a chat with the teachers can be arranged by contacting the school at 489-3105. The Annual Preschool Graduation Celebration will be held on Thursday, May 26 at the SGFM Gymnasium.

Awards assembly

On May 25 at 6:30 p.m. the Eisenhower faculty as well as individuals and organizations from the community will present the senior recognitions, academic awards, scholarships, university and college scholarships, and honors to members of the 2011 graduating class. Each year the surrounding community is generous with their awards to graduating students to help them with their future education. Everyone is invited to attend the awards ceremony which will be held in the EMHS auditorium. Graduation ceremonies will be held on Friday, June 10.

Spring cleaning

The Sugar Grove Free Library is asking for donations of gently used books for their annual book sale. The Book Sale is Saturday July 30 from 8:30 a.m. 3 p.m. in conjunction with the Annual Sugar Grove Sale Days. The proceeds from the sale benefit the local library. Please refrain from donating readers digest condensed, encyclopedias, or school texts books, as they are not sellable at this type of event. If you would like to make a donation of books please call 489-7872 or stop in at the library during our open hours.

Hours at the Library are presently Monday and Wednesday 1 8 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 11 a.m. 4 p.m.

Barnyard Classic

The Annual 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Barnyard Classic will take place this year at Eisenhower on Saturday, May 28, 2011. The cost is $64 per team. The application deadline has been extended this week. Log on to www.barnyardclassic.com for a complete registration form and more information. Every effort will be made to hold the tournament on Saturday only. Registration time begins Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 7:45 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. and all teams must be registered 30 minutes prior to their first game time. Games Begin will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m.

This year there will also be a boys & girls "Free Throw" and "3-Point" Competition with prize awarded. There is a fee of $1 per player for each contest.

Throughout the day there will be a concession stand available with a variety of food and drink items for sale. Mark your calendar for this annual event. All proceeds from this event benefit the Lady Knights Basketball Team.

Benefit dinner

There will be a benefit dinner for the Ron Porter Family on June 5 at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall. The Porter family previously lost their house to a fire. This is a baked chicken dinner held from 1 p.m. 4 p.m. or until supplies run out. There will also be a Chinese auction held to help raise money for this worthy cause.

Chicken BBQ

& Cruise In

Friday, May 27th the Sugar Grove Fire Hall will hold a Chicken BBQ during the Annual Cruise-In Car Show. The community is invited to stop down to School Street and the surrounding area to view the classic cars and enjoy good food. BBQ Chicken dinners will be served from 4 p.m. until gone. The cost is $8 per dinner or $6 for a half-chicken dinner or kids meal. The Fire Department will also hold their Penny Raffle Drawing during the event.

Sugar Grove Sale Day

Preparations are underway for another fun Sugar Grove Sale Days event. This year Sale Days will be held on Saturday, July 30. If you would like to secure a spot for your Sale at the Sugar Grove Fire Department, you can reserve that now by calling Amanda at 730-3490 or Bryan at 730-3491. Vendor areas are still open for one spot at a cost of $25 or two spots at a cost of $45.

Lunch schedule

A community lunch is provided at the local area churches. The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The 2nd Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church will be hosting a community lunch on the 4th Monday of the month. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. Over the winter months the lunches have been well attended and we hope that the start of spring brings out even more. Come on out and enjoy lunch and catch up with old and new friends.

Community, Library

and Children

The Sugar Grove Free Library will be sponsoring an evening spring story hour starting May 23 at 7 p.m. The theme this year will be to bring an awareness of the people that make up the community. Every Monday night will feature a different resident that will read a book that corresponds with their profession, hobbies, or special interests. Sharing a sense of community is important to all of us. For our children this instills an understanding of pride, community awareness, and respect for the area that we live.

There is no age limit with this program, but pre-registration is appreciated.

Food pantry

Many area volunteers, businesses, and organizations have donated to refill the local Sugar Grove Food Pantry. The food pantry is daily in operation to help out those in need in the Sugar Grove Community. If you are in need of food items this holiday season, please contact the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church at 489-3105 for information on how you can make an appointment with a volunteer who can assist you in receiving needed food items.

Scholarship

A Scholarship is available from the Sugar Grove American Legion Post #758. The Legion is offering this scholarship to Eisenhower Middle High School Seniors. Information is available in the Eisenhower Guidance office.

Clean Up Day

The Sugar Grove Community Clean up Day is going to be held Saturday, May 21st from 8 a.m. 1 p.m. The drop off place is the Sugar Grove Township Building. This Clean up is for Sugar Grove Township residents only. The cost is $5 per load. Please remember no batteries, oil, hazardous materials, asbestos, propane tanks, no televisions, monitors, computers, tires or wet paint is allowed to be dropped off. If you have any questions, you may contact the Sugar Grove Township Building at 489-7809

Graduation

The EMHS Baccalaureate Service will be in the Eisenhower Auditorium at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, and the 2011 Commencement Ceremony will be held June 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Scholarships

Those organizations providing scholarships to EMHS seniors should confirm their choice for scholarship winner with the EMHS office by calling 757-8878.

Day camp

Sugar Grove Summer Day Camp begins on Monday, June 13. This camp has been a service to the community for more than 20 years. Students entering grades this fall of Kindergarten through grade 7 are eligible to attend Summer Day Camp. Day Camp will continue for the summer months through August and runs from 6:45 a.m. through 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both educational and physical fitness activities are provided for the students. The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church has been granted a license from the state of Pennsylvania to provide these day care services. The Day Camp facility, program and staff meet all state regulations as a licensed facility.

With weekly themes and field trips, there is a lot of activity certain to keep even the most adventurous and energetic children busy and engaged on a hot summer day. If you would like more information on the program and the options of full-time care, part-time care or drop-in care, please contact the day camp office at 489-3105.
