Town and Country
Numerous people stopped in to wish a Happy 35th Anniversary to Town And Country owner Herky Brooks. The store has been a big part of Sugar Grove for more than 35 years but owner Herky Brooks celebrates his joining the Sugar Grove Community just 35 years ago last week.

Join us for the Eisenhower Middle High School Art Show on Friday, May 13, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The show will feature artwork from Art 1 through Art 4 classes, ceramics, crafts, sculpture and Exploratory Art 7 and 8 and also eighth grade Art classes.

Barnyard Classic

The Annual 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Barnyard Classic will take place at Eisenhower on Saturday, May 28. The cost is $64 per team.

The application deadline has been extended this week. Log on to www.barnyardclassic.com for a registration form and more information. Every effort will be made to hold the tournament on Saturday only. Registration time begins Saturday, May 28, at 7:45 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. and all teams must be registered 30 minutes prior to their first game time. Games will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m.

This year there will also be a boys and girls "Free Throw" and "3-Point" competition with prize awarded. There is a fee of $1 per player for each contest.

Throughout the day there will be a concession stand available with a variety of food and drink items for sale. All proceeds benefit the Lady Knights basketball team.

Choir Concert

Eisenhower High School Senior Choir members look forward to presenting their Annual Spring Concert on Friday, May 13, at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

The concert will includes a variety of songs - classical, folk, pop, musical theatre and a newly-commissioned arrangement of "Rachel's Anthem." The auditioned group Fantasia will also perform, all under the direction of Denise Pearson. Accompanying Senior Choir on piano will be Ethan Swanson former choir member from the class of 2008.

The concert is free, but donations will be appreciated.

Benefit Dinner

for Tyler Eckman

There will be a benefit dinner for Tyler Eckman and family Sunday, May 15, at the Lander Fire Hall.

This will be a spaghetti dinner held from 1 to 5 p.m. or until supplies are gone. The cost is a donation to the family.

Tyler is a senior at Eisenhower High School who has been hospitalized at Pittsburgh Children's Hospital since March. All proceeds from the dinner will go the assist with Tyler's medical expenses.

Happy Birthday Herky

Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to Herky Brooks and the Town and Country Food Center.

The week of May 1-7 Sugar Grove celebrated the 35th anniversary of owner Herky Brooks purchasing the Town and Country Food Center. The week also happened to coincide with his 75th birthday. Congratulations to those who won the celebratory giveaways: a 24-inch LED-LCD HD television, a whole beef strip loin cut and wrapped to order, the 20-pound meat freezer pack with steak, pork, chicken, sausage, and more and the tricycle and cart.

Spring Fling Bingo

The Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Spring Fling Bingo night on Sunday, May 15. Door will open at 3 p.m. and the event will begin at 4 p.m. This is All you can Play for $20. There will be $750 in jackpot prizes.

Benefit Dinner

for Ron Porter Family

There will be a benefit dinner for the Ron Porter family on June 5 at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall. The Porter family previously lost their house to a fire. This is a baked chicken dinner held from 1 to 4 p.m. or until supplies run out.

There will also be a Chinese Auction held to help raise money.

Chicken BBQ

Friday, May 27 the Sugar Grove Fire Hall will hold a chicken BBQ during the Annual Cruise-In. The community is invited to stop down to School Street and the surrounding area to view the classic cars and enjoy the food. Dinners will be served from 4 p.m. until gone. The cost is $8 per dinner or $6 for a half chicken dinner or kids meal.

The fire department will also hold its Penny Raffle Drawing during the event.

Sugar Grove Sale Day

Preparations are underway for another fun Sugar Grove Sale Days event. This year Sale Days will be held on Saturday, July 30. If you would like to secure a spot for your sale at the Sugar Grove Fire Department, you can reserve that now by calling Amanda at 730-3490 or Bryan at 730-3491.

Vendor areas are still open for one spot at a cost of $25 or two spots at a cost of $45.

Community Lunch

Schedule

A community lunch is provided at the local area churches. The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The second Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church will be hosting a community lunch on the fourth Monday of the month.

All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.

Community,

Library, and Kids

The Sugar Grove Free Library will be sponsoring an evening spring story hour starting May 23 at 7 p.m. The theme this year will be to bring an awareness of the people that make up our community. Every Monday night will feature a different resident who will read a book that corresponds with their profession, hobbies, or special interests. Sharing a sense of community is important to all of us. For our children this instills an understanding of pride, community awareness, and respect for the area that we live.

There is no age limit with this program, but pre-registration is appreciated.

Food Pantry

Many area volunteers, businesses, and organizations have donated to refill the Sugar Grove Food Pantry. The food pantry is daily in operation to help out those in need in the Sugar Grove Community. If you are in need of food items, contact the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church at 489-3105 for information on how you can make an appointment with a volunteer who can assist you in receiving needed food items.

American Legion

Scholarship

A Scholarship is available from the Sugar Grove American Legion Post 758. The Legion is offering this scholarship to Eisenhower Middle High School seniors. Information is available in the Eisenhower guidance office.

Clean Up Day

for Township Residents

The Sugar Grove Community Clean up Day will be held Saturday, May 21, from 8 to 1 p.m. The drop-off place is the Sugar Grove Township Building. This Clean up is for township residents only.

The cost is $5 per load. No batteries, oil, hazardous materials, asbestos, propane tanks, no televisions, monitors, computers, tires or wet paint can be dropped off. For more information, contact the Sugar Grove Township Building at 489-7809

Celebration Event

Planned

The Senior Awards Ceremony for this year at Eisenhower High School will be held in the auditorium at 6:30 p.m. on May 25. Numerous graduating students will be receiving honors, awards, and scholarships. The EMHS Baccalaureate Service will be in the auditorium at 2 p.m. on June 5 and Commencement will be held June 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Cooking Class

ARAMARK Food Services, the food service company for the Warren County School District, will present its May Community Cooking Class on Wednesday, May 18 at 6 p.m.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend this final cooking class of the 2010-2011 school year. There is no charge for this class, but register ahead by calling 723-6900 ext 2145, because registration fills to capacity.

This month's class is "Summer BBQ Grilling" and there will be recipes, tips, hands-on cooking segments, and samples to taste. Class will be held at Beaty Warren Middle School.
