Discover kayak

The Warren County YMCA has added two additional "Discover Kayaking" classes, on Monday, May 23, and Thursday, May 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. both evenings. Piper and Josh Lindell from Allegheny Outfitters will lead these classes. Pre-registration is mandatory, and there is a small fee. To register, stop by the YMCA at 212 Lexington Ave., Warren,, or call 726-0110.

Tshirt quilting

Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark St., will have a Tshirt quilting class from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 9, 16 and 23. Come to one class or all three; the public is invited. There is a suggested donation of $2 per class to cover the cost of material. Reservations are needed; call 723-3237.

Auditions planned

Warren Players announces auditions for their next main stage musical, "Into the Woods," on May 23-24 at 6 p.m. at Struthers Library Theatre, 302 W. Third Ave., Warren. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, this hilarious romp through the forest takes your favorite fairy tales, and combines them in a head-on collision of comedy, parody and just a pinch of naughtiness. There are roles available for 23 actors: 9 men and 14 women; all but 5 of them require singing. No experience is needed. Coordinators are primarily looking for actors age 16 and older. Audition packets are available at the theater office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Leaders will be C.J. Lyons, musical director; Joy McMonigal, vocal director; Gary Brumagin, production manager; and Jeremy Jeziorski, director. Performances will be July 21-24 and 28-30.

Learn to canoe

An "Introduction to Canoeing" will be the next in the JCC Primetime Series at Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark St., Warren. The class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, May 10 and 12. Lindells from Allegheny Outfitters will teach kayak and canoe features, selection, paddle stroke techniques, safety and equipment. Lecture will be at ACC with a two-hour trip on the Allegheny River to test participants' skills. Class size is limited.
