Both of Youngsville's track & field teams earned a victory over cross-county rival Eisenhower on Thursday as the boys won 81-60, and the girls gained an 88-51 win at Eisenhower High School.

Youngsville's girls (2-1) dominated Eisenhower on the track as the Eagles took first in every race except the 800-meter run. The Knights were just as dominant in the field events as they took first in every event save the discus.

Abbey McLaughlin (100, 200), Kaitlyn Maille (1600, 3200) and Cassie Swartzbaugh (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) were all dual winners for the Eagles. All three were also part of first place teams in the relay events. Devon Gruver was first in the 400 with a time of 1:07 and Kelly Cindrich took first in the discus with a throw of 82' 2 1/2".

One last hurdle
Youngsville's Cassie Swartzbaugh clears the final hurdle on her way to a first-place finish in the 300 hurdles during Thursday's meet with Eisenhower at Eisenhower High School.

The team of Alexis Morrison, Shayla Reynolds, Swartzbaugh and McLaughlin took the 4x100 relay with a time of 56 seconds. Gruver, Lexi Robinault, Maille and Kelly Lindstrom won the 4x800 relay in 11:21, and Morrison, Robinault, McLaughlin and Gruver won the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:52.

Courtney Flynn (triple jump, long jump) and Jessica Haskins (shot put, javelin) were dual winners for the Knights. Bizz Baran finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:49.3 and Marian Sherer's clearance of 4'5" in the high jump was enough for first in that event.

"Baran ran a good, smart race in the 800," said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue, whose Lady Knights are 0-3 after the Region 3 meet. "Her 400 (run) was very good as well, she just needs to work on her finish."

Logue added that Sherer's win in the high jump was "very much a positive" for the Knights.

For Youngsville's boys, Nathan Smith, Rocco Gatta and Bobby McCoy swept the 100, 200 and 400 sprints.

Tanner Rosenberg helped Youngsville (2-1) by winning the 16, and was part of two of the Eagles' three winning relays,

Gatta also won the shot, as the Eagles swept the event. Seth Wachter won the discus for Youngsville.

"We had a lot of people step up today," said Youngsville boys coach Jeff Manelick. "We were minus (Abel) Robinault in the distance events, and some people put a lot of miles in today; I was particular pleased with Patrick Hoover. He ran the 3200 relay for us, which was a crucial event, and came back in the 110 hurdles and won it. He ran the 3200, got second, and just got done running and ended up getting a second in the high jump. Tanner Rosenberg stepping in there, won the 1600, ran the 800, and then the two of them came back in the 1600 relay.

"Mike Hamrick had a pretty good day."

"Actually, that's the best weather we had for a meet this year," said Ike boys coach David Bauer. "I was a little disappointed with how it played out. We thought it was going to be neck-and-neck."

Brent Foster, winning in the 800 for Eisenhower (2-2) in 2:16, "ran a really good race, and (Anthony) Amroski in the two-mile," said Bauer. "Ben Perkins keeps showing us what an all-around athlete he is, he never really did triple (jump) before, and he's a sophomore."

Alex Yeagle continues to shine, winning the 300 low hurdles (48.35 seconds) and the javelin (134-0) - showing his versatility. Paul Sherer was also a double-winner in the high jump (5-8) and long jump (19-3). Perkins won the triple (37-6) for Ike, and Amroski won the 3200 (11:29).

Bauer also pointed out that his athletes that did not finish among the top three in any event also set significant personal-bests, "and that's why we coach," he said.

The tri-meet with Johnsonburg was not scored.

Warren girls 103, Titusville 38

TITUSVILLE - Warren continues to sweep away the competition.

The Dragons notched their fourth boys and girls sweep of the season Thursday, handing Titusville a pair of tracj & field defeats. The boys were a 97-44 winner while the girls claimed a 103-38 triumph.

"We had a pretty balanced attack today," said Warren boys coach Steve Norris. "Our field athletes came through and got 37 points for us and we scored in every event except the 3200 relay. But even that team had a personal best by 14 seconds."

Allen Burnett and Matt Stapleford each had four-win days for the Dragons with two individual wins and two relay wins apiece. Burnett won the 100 and 200 as well as the 400 relay with Dray Anderson, Nathan Zigler and Stapleford and the 1600 relay with Rob Bablak, Stapleford and Jordan Willetts. Stapleford added victories in the 300 hurdles and the javelin with his second best ever throw of 163 feet, one inch.

Zigler chipped in two more wins in the 110 hurdles and high jump and Brad Simmons' busy day was capped off with victories in both the 1600 and 3200 distance races.

Jordan Baker, Mark Davis, Rex Graham, Willetts and Amani Bosko all had one win each on Thursday. In the field, Baker won the long jump, Davis the triple jump and Graham the discus. Willetts added a win in the 400 on the track and Bosko was the winner in the 800.

The girls team was extremely solid in their victory, winning a majority of the individual events and all three relays while cruising to an easy win.

"I'm very happy with how we performed today," said Warren girls coach Mark Sweet. "The girls are beginning to wear down with having a meet after a meet like we have been. The Easter break will be good for us."

On Thursday, Summer Walter and Ellis Beardsley were both four-time winners for the Dragons. Walter again swept the hurdle events and added a victory in the 100 with a sprint of 13.64 seconds. She also teamed with Beardsley, Anderson and Paige Rimer to win the 1600 relay.

Beardsley added a second relay with Amanda Castagnino, Rimer and Sydney Paris in the 3200 relay as well as individual wins in both the 800 and 1600.

Kaitlyn Levesque won the 200, Sabrina Anderson the 400 and Castagnino the 3200 to round out Warren's individual track victories. The 400 relay team of Anderson, Armanini, Levesque and Casey Kulka was also victorious.

Anderson's high jump win and Armanini's long jump win added to Warren's field totals.

Warren (4-0) returns to action Tuesday when they visit Meadville in a very important region showdown.

Coudersport 78, Sheffield boys 62

Coudersport 103, Sheffield girls 35

In spite of wins in seven events, the Sheffield Wolverines boys track team dropped a close 78-62 decision to Coudersport on Thursday afternoon at Sheffield High School.

Kalil Slaughter had yet another stellar day on the track, winning the 100 in 12 seconds, the 200 in 23 seconds, and long jump with a jump of 20' 6".

Evan Jamison was also a multiple winner, taking the 400 in 57.2 seconds and high jump with a jump of 5' 6".

Sheffield also took two relays, the 400 and 1600.

"I knew it was going to be a pretty good meet, we matched up fairly well," said Sheffield boys coach Bryan Gould. "Dylan McNeal stepped in and ran the 300 hurdles and has never done it before and finished second. Mark Sprandle did a nice job (in the 4X800 relay). We did pretty well in the sprints, which I expected. They had some pretty good stud throwers... Even though we did lose a close meet, in getting some better times and distances, so I'm pretty happy."

On the girls side, Coudersport cruised to a 103-35 win, but, individually, Sam Moore took the 100 in 14.9, the 200 in 30.8, and the 400 in 1:07.8.

With a smaller group, the only other event win came from Ashley Davidson, who won long jump with a jump of 13' 11/2".
