Scholarships
Music students and teachers in piano, voice, string and woodwind are eligible for the Barbara Baldwin DeFrees Music Scholarships. Students can apply for assistance with continuning education and teachers can apply for assistance either for further music study or for a seminar during summer vacation.
If a student, a letter of intent, school transcripts, a recommendation from a piano, voice string or woodwind teacher and a statement about how they intend to further their study in their chosen musical endeavor. Student's home address, S.S., name of school attending and address for the Financial Aid Office if applicable needs to be included also. Teachers should provide in writing an indication of how the grant money will benefit their teaching and used for the advancement of musical art.
Applications should be sent to Community Foundation of Warren County, 213 W. Third Avenue, Room 103 Warren Pa.16365. Deadline for receiving applications is April 22.
Philomel
Scholarships
The Philomel Club of Warren is accepting applications for its annual scholarships for music students in grades seven and above who are or will be studying with a private music instructor or are planning to pursue continuing education in music. Letters should include goals, accomplishments, private instructor's names, address, phone nuimber and general information about the applicant. College Students should include the name of their school and a scholastic summary. Adults are welcome fo apply for scholarships for the advancement of their musical interest.
Nominations are also being accepted for the annual Philomel Teacher Award. They may be nominated or apply in writing on their behalf indicating the desire to advance the interest and promote the culture, broader love, appreciation of musical art and to develop individual talent.
