Spring clean up

Spring Clean Up will be held on Saturday, April 16 at the Borough building parking lot on 40 Railroad St. from 8 a.m. to noon Minimum fees are $10 per car or $20 per truck. ID is required. No tires, batteries, paint cans, propane tanks, or other hazardous materials will be accepted.

Community dinner

Dinner will be served on Tuesday, April 12th from 4-6 p.m. with take outs available after 5:45. Tuesday's meal will be beef stew, bread, and dessert. This is a free dinner to anyone in the community. Donations are accepted. We invite you to join us for Sunday morning service at 9.

Homecoming

Committee members met and discussed a number of time and title related matters. A 'Retro' basket is being assembled to raffle as a fundraiser, committee members and those wishing to donate should turn in items no later that April 10. The Spaghetti Dinner on May 10, Election Day, was organized and will be at Joy Hall from 4 p.m. until all meals have been sold, cost of dinner is a donation to support the alumni activities in September. The next meeting will be held at the Rouse Suites Community room on Thursday, April 14th at 6:30 p.m. YHS Alumni may call 814/563-3566 or 814/489-3789 for more information or volunteers willing to help.

Win a Bunny

Easter is April 24 this year and the Revitalization of Youngsville and the Black Cat are getting into the spring holiday spirit. Parents are welcome to stop in the Black Cat at 1 East Main Street to register to win a free pink or blue 20" stuffed bunny. The pink bunny will be awarded to a girl and the blue to a boy. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, April 19. The ROY Easter Bunny will be in downtown Youngsville on Friday, April 15 from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 16, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., bring your children and the camera.

Girl Scouts

Warren Troops 30198 and 30050 and Youngsville Troop 30699 Girl Scouts participated in a clay sculpting class directed by Joanne Oviatt, held at the Allegheny Artistry in Youngsville. Joanne instructed the girls on how clay works and how to manipulate the clay into beautiful pieces by using natural and manmade materials and adding their own creativity. Each of the girls created a wall vase to take home. After the project, Joanne took the girls on a tour of the gallery and talked about her life as an artist and teacher. Each girl earned the Girl Scout Artistic Crafts badge.

Essay winners

The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 658 of Youngsville, announced the winners of the 2011 essay contest. The title of the essay was "How can I Encourage My Friends To Show Pride In Being An American". All first place winners will be sent on to the county council level.

Pool Drive

With the initial door to door drive completed Friends of Brokenstraw Valley Pool, Inc. have reached over half of their goal of raising $100,000 to assist the Borough in keeping the pool open.

The Board of Directors of BVSP, Inc. offers thanks to all the people who have contributed or pledged to date. Pledges and contributions are continuing to come in nearly every day. The BVSP will now move on to our business and corporate solicitations.

The Board has designated the months of April, May and June as time to visit and meet with our local businesses to solicit their help in our cause. These same months the group will be contacting corporations, foundations and fraternal groups. The Brokenstraw Valley Pool serves people employed at or involved with most corporations, foundations or fraternal groups in all of Warren County.
