Cruise and vacation

Someone has donated to the Youngsville Free Methodist Church a trip to Florida, 4 days in Ft. Lauderdale, 3 days in Orlando, and 2-night cruise to Bahamas, with 9 bonus stays at various locations. The bonus trips are 2-4 days in length and can be given to family and friends (so can the main trip).

The church is taking sealed bids for the vacation. The bids will be opened after the mail is delivered on Monday, March 28th. The winner will be notified by the end of the day.

Listed on the website, www.yfmc.webs.com, are the details on what you are bidding for.

Only the high bid is accepted; all other bids will be considered null and void. Payment is due upon notification of winning bid. The cruise is for 2 people, the hotels include 3 meals a day, and you can have 4 people in your room.

Pool fund drive

On Sunday, March 6 Friends of Brokenstraw Valley Pool, Inc held the Kick Off of their Fund raising efforts to save the pool with their first door-to-door canvas to collect funds and pledges for the pool. In their first effort with a few early pledges in hand, and a very nice effort on Sunday, they reached 25 percent or $25,000 of the $100,000 goal. The result nearly assures keeping the pool open in 2011.

Thank you to those volunteers who braved the nasty weather going door to door and those folks who welcomed them into their homes and contributed or pledged their financial support. A special thank you, as well, to the Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department for allowing us the use of the Fire hall as a base for our kickoff event.

Those residents, who were not at home, please take time to review the material left in your doors and help by sending in your contributions or pledges as soon as you can. Make your checks payable to Friends of Brokenstraw Valley Pool, Inc and send to P.O. Box 1, Youngsville, PA 16371. If you have any questions or concerns call Bill Slocum at 814-563-7829.

Sweet at the Suites

Mardi Gras was celebrated by chocolate and wine tasting on Friday, March 4, at the Rouse Suites. Residents, family, and friends listened to Pete Pepke while enjoying many appetizers made from the Suites' kitchen. Blair Corp. also brought in some clothing wear for ordering. Chocolate samples were made by Tybout House of Handcrafts and Dorothy Barsody. A wine tasting bar was set up by Flickerwood Winery of Kane. Good food and fun was had by everyone.
