Vision testing
Youngsville's Kindergarten registration had a new component this year that fascinated the incoming students. Vision screening was done at YEMS for this years kindergarten registration. YEMS was the only school in the district to have this technology. Penny Ohmer, a vision screener from the Erie Sight Center brought her computerized screening equipment to perform the required vision screen on children. Within a matter of minutes the equipment determines the level of vision and all 50 of YEMS registrants were tested. The Youngsville Area Lioness Club organized and worked on bringing Ms. Ohmer to Youngsville's registration.

Rouse Hearts and Flowers

Youngsville Cheerleading Clinic will be held on Saturday, April 2, at the YEMS gym from 9 - 11:30 a.m. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. for students from kindergarten through grade 12 for $20.00 per student ($15 if 2 or more family members are participating). Checks are to be made payable to Youngsville Cheer. Cheerleaders will be broken into age groups and age appropriate instructions will be given in motions, voice, jumps, chants, cheers, and dance. Advance registration before March 18th will include a T-shirt for the event. For further information contact Michelle Johnson or Melissa Sproveri at YEMS.
Dinner benefit
A benefit dinner will be held at the Garland Fire Hall on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. or until sold out. The dinner will include homemade chicken and biscuits, vegetable, dessert and a beverage. Donations are being accepted for the dinner. Carry-outs will also be available. All proceeds from the benefit will go to the John and Judy Taber family to help defer medical costs. Everyone in the area is encouraged to come out for a good meal and to support the Taber Family. Music will be provided by Cameron Bussoletti, D.J.
Baskets Galore
The Youngsville Public Library is sponsoring a Chinese auction of seven different themed baskets, to coincide with its March 12 Charity Bowling "Fun"-Raiser at the Valley Bowling Center. Friends of the Library board members each selected a "theme" and gathered items to fill the raffle baskets.
The first three baskets are complete and include the following items. The "Wine & Cheese Basket", contains a bottle of Blackberry Merlot, a bottle of Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon, a bottle of Italian Pitule Neirano, a bottle of Manischewitz Loganberry, a bottle of Clancy Cabernet Sauvignon and assorted crackers and cheeses. The "Great for Guys Basket", contains a $30 gift certificate, a case of pop and two can koozies from Pete's Beverage, A Man, A Can & A Plan cookbook, beef jerky, beef sticks, Slim Jims, peanuts, potato chips, tortilla chips, salsa, work gloves, duct tape, rechargeable battery charger with batteries, Armorall car wash sponge and shammy, wash bucket and a 9'x12' drop cloth.
A "Dinner & A Movie Basket", contains a $30 gift certificate from Ruby Tuesday's and a $20 gift certificate from Dipson Theatres.
The baskets will be at several locations until the March 23 drawing. All seven baskets are now on display at the library. The baskets will move to the Valley Bowling Center for the Bowling "Fun"-Raiser and then back to the library. Tickets can be purchased at the Valley Bowling Center, the Youngsville Public Library and from any Library Friends Board Member or Library Board Member.
Chinese auction
The youth of Saron Lutheran Church are sponsoring a Chinese Auction to raise funds for their Christmas gift giving through the Salvation Army. Local businesses and individuals are being contacted for donations. The deadline for donations for the auction is Feb. 27. The auction drawing will be held on Sunday, March 27, followed by a spaghetti dinner at the Saron Lutheran Church from 4:30 to 6 p.m. This dinner is open to the public and the cost is a donation. Hunt for Cupid Winner
The Revitalization of Youngsville Promotion Committee held a Hunt for Cupid contest throughout the local businesses. Entry participants had to find all 10 Cupids hidden throughout Youngsville and turn in a completed form on Saturday, Feb. 12.
Margaret Rosequist was chosen from all the correctly answered entry forms to win the top prize of $100. The Promotion committee is responsible for encouraging patrons and visitors to the area to shop at local businesses. This is just one contest scheduled for the 2011 shopping year.
YEMS raffle
YEMS would like to thank everyone who bought gas raffle tickets for the YEMS first grade field trip fund. Principal Shannon Yeager drew the winning ticket belonging to Dave Shaffer of Youngsville.
Windows for the
Wilder Museum
Ron Glotz Construction Co. has begun work on replacing windows on the west side of the Wilder Museum. The plan is to do a side at a time as they raise the funds. This should dramatically reduce their heating and cooling bills and make it easier to keep the museum operational. Some windows are being completely blocked for conservancy purposes.
The Museum will reopen in late April. In celebration of the reopening their will be a fundraising event held on Sunday, May 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 51 Erie Avenue in Irvine. The event is called a Party with the "Wilder" Women, a vintage fashion parade. Enjoy chocolate, cheese, wine and other finger foods while local ladies model the rarely seen textiles from the Historical Society's collection. Reservations required, and the proceeds benefit the Wilder Museum. Anyone wishing to help preserve this valuable Youngsville area asset or make reservations for the Party, may do so by contacting Shelly at 723-1795.
Dinner dance
On Feb. 19 the Rouse Suites hosted a Hearts and Flowers Dinner Dance. Residents and families got to enjoy a wonderful dinner of prime rib or chicken breast, seasoned potatoes, asparagus, peas, and stuffed mushrooms. Dessert was a variety of cakes and chocolate covered strawberries. After dinner, the residents got to do some toe tapping and hand clapping to the music of B & E Combo.
