Do we need a Holy Spirit revival?

Minister’s Meditation

Jesus started His church with the fire of the Holy Spirit descending upon the 120 believers in an upper room at Pentecost. Pentecost happened during the Jewish feast of Pentecost (God doesn't miss a detail). The Feast of Pentecost was the feast of "first fruits" of the harvest (Acts chapter 2). This is very significant because there was about to be a great harvest of souls following the believers being "baptized with the Holy Spirit" in the upper room.

Jesus said that this baptism of the Holy Spirit would come upon them so that they would be "endued with power" (the power of the Holy Spirit) to be His witnesses. In fact, Jesus made it clear that they weren't to do anything until they received this baptism of the Spirit.

It was only in the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus launched His church - with the fire, power and presence of the Holy Spirit burning inside them. This power and reality of the Holy Spirit within launched them with great boldness and resolve, not depending upon their own power to spread the gospel but relying upon the power of God working through them. They spoke the word with boldness; miracles happened, souls were saved and lives were changed. Was it just for them, or do we need this today?

Peter said that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was first for Jesus, and then Jesus would pour it out upon us. Peter said in Acts 2:33, "Therefore (Jesus) being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit , He poured out this which you now see and hear." And he goes on to say in verses 38-39, "Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."

Jesus fully intends for ALL His followers to have the Holy Spirit's presence burning within them. WE are the ones who were afar off that Peter was talking about; and praise God the promise is still alive for US! We don't have to settle for dead, dry, powerless religion! We can ask Jesus to baptize us with His Holy Spirit and fire today, so that we may be "endued with power" to be His witnesses (Luke 24:49).

If the early church needed the power of the Holy Spirit to advance the church and the Kingdom of God, how much more do we need it today? If there is anything Satan wants to keep from Christians, it is this. He wants to keep us spiritually powerless.

Do you fully trust Jesus as your Savior? If so, then you qualify to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and endued with power to be His witness! Ask Jesus to baptize you with His Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13) and be willing to yield to His will. This promise truly extends to you and to me.
