KNOX - Sheffield got off to a good start with four forfeit wins and defeated Keystone, 42-24, on Friday at Keystone High School.
On the mat, Brandon Ryan had a hard-fought win at 145.
"It was an awesome match to watch," said Sheffield coach Eric Shotts. Ryan and Tyler Hannold - also ranked in District 9 - wrestled to a 0-0 tie through one period, and Ryan got a takedown and later an escape in the second and tacked on a takedown in the third when the match went back-and-forth.
Chris McManus has vastly improved and for an 8-1 decision at 152.
"We saw a lot of good things from Chris tonight," said Shott.
"Some of these kids are peaking at the right time," he said. "They are going to walk into districts (Feb. 25 and 26) with confidence."
Sheffield hosts Clarion on Tuesday in the Wolverines' final dual of the season.
