Council news
The Sugar Grove Borough Council held their monthly meeting on Monday, February 7th. A larger than normal turnout of community individuals attended this month's meeting. Council Members in attendance were Jerry Bloomgren, Kevin Nicklas, Neal Hosington, Kevin McIntyre, Mayor Dutch Strand, Bob Snyder, Kathy Buerkle, Dave Slater and secretary, Karla LoPresti.
The large attendance was due to the presentation brought by Dan Glotz, Director of Warren County Planning and Zoning. Glotz made a presentation on the history of why the zoning ordinance was adopted in the 1960's for a number of communities in Warren County. Presently, the Warren County Planning and Zoning covers a number of boroughs and townships. Clarendon, Sugar Grove and Tidioute Boroughs as well as Columbus, Conewango, Eldred, Elk, Farmington, Glade, mead, Pine Grove, Pleasant, and Southwest Townships. Glotz also explained changes made to the Warren County Zoning ordinances when it was revised in 1986.
Glotz was thanked by the Mayor and the Council for taking the time to make this presentation and the Council will take some time to review his recommendation and the process.
In other business the Council was informed that Justin Darr has been named as the new Fire Chief of the Sugar Grove Volunteer Department. Additional business that was discussed included the upcoming Geocashing event in the area, Fire Committee Classes, and Snow removal issues. Presently, the total for snowplowing and removal this winter has totaled $10, 621. Due to the harsh winter conditions, that amount is expected to continue to grow and will eventually exceed the budgeted amount for the year. Council President Kevin McIntyre would like to remind all Sugar Grove residents to take precautions and think of safety first when removing ice from their rooftops this winter.
The Council meeting was adjourned at 8:28 p.m. The next Council meeting will be on March 7th.
