Kathleen McAvoy and Rory Makielski were united in marriage on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church. The ceremony was officiated by Monsignor Casimir A. Bogniak.
The bride is the daughter of Michael and Barbara McAvoy of Warren. The groom is the son of Dr. Jonathan and Deirdre Makielski of Madison, Wisc.
The bride was escorted in marriage by her father. Maid of honor was Mary Lynn McAvoy, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Michelle McAvoy, sister of the bride, and Jennifer Muscaro and Blair Schoenborn, friends of the bride. Best man was Brian Murphy, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Jason Dill, brother-in-law of the groom, and Mark McAllister and Daniel Marker, friends of the groom.

Julie Madden, cousin of the bride; Megan Knoll, friend of the bride and groom; and Robert McAvoy, brother of the bride, provided wedding music. Readers were Stephanie Zurek, cousin of the bride, and Kiera Makielski, sister of the groom. Molly and Jim Pasquarette, Godparents of the bride, and David Makielski and Celine Cronin, Godparents of the groom, presented the gifts. The bride's brother, Robert McAvoy, and cousins Nate DaCanal and John Reed were altar servers. Maeve Dill, sister of the groom, provided graphic design.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Saint Joseph Educational Center with music provided by EJ the DJ.
A pre-nuptial shower was hosted by the bride's attendants and Robin Muscaro at Jackson Valley Country Club. The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at Chiodo's Ferro Cucino.
The bride is a research specialist at the Hillman Cancer Center in the Cancer Virology Program. The groom is a medical resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Following a honeymoon trip to Italy, the couple resides in Pittsburgh.
