BOYS HOOPS: WCCS boys fall short of Girard

February 4, 2011
The Times Observer

Girard Alliance jumped out to a 17-7 first-quarter lead and held off Warren County Christian School, 41-31, in a New-Penn Christian Conference game at Warren County Christian.

"We committed (several) turnovers right off the bat and we got in foul trouble right off the bat," said WCCS coach Steve Zwald, whose Lions are 6-7 overall and in fifth place in the conference. Girard Alliance came in in fourth place and is now 8-5 in the league.

Zwald said WCCS' Andrew Hammersley and Carson Moore - the Lions' stat leaders - each had three fouls after the first quarter.

"Ultimately, the big thing is the same thing as all year," said Zwald. "We weren't able to put the ball in the hole."

WCCS created several turnovers early in the fourth quarter in an attempt to climb back into the game, but only converted one of the first six turnovers in the quarter into points.

Hammersley finished with 14 points and Moore had 10 rebounds and five steals.
