Jamestown hosts annual figure skating event

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Chautauqua Winter Games will be held at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena in Jamestown, N.Y., on Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6.

The public - and the event is free for the public - can see every level of figure skating from the cutest four-year-old beginner to polished national competitors. It will be a great winter weekend in Jamestown.

Opening Ceremonies for Chautauqua Ice presents the Chautauqua Winter Games will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena. All skaters competing will enter the arena proudly displaying the banners of their clubs.

Figure skaters will compete at JSB Ice Arena from 9 a.m. to 9:20 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Two hundred skaters from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida have entered Freeskating, Short Program, Compulsory Moves, Compulsory Spins, Dance, Moves in the Field, Interpretive, Showcase, and Team events. Every level from the Beginner to Senior will be represented.

Warren County skaters from the Jamestown Skating Club competing include: Bekah Casey, Stephanie Hice, Kirsten DiPierro, Julia Bauer and Jaylin Orwig.

Also of special interest will be the Showcase Events. Skaters have prepared these show programs with creative and colorful costuming and props. Skaters will be presented with spotlights for extra effect and excitement.
