GIRLS HOOPS: Warren fights back for big Region 6 win

January 26, 2011
By ALLEN SEYBERT aseybert@timesobserver.com

CORRY - The Warren girls provided a Jekyll and Hyde performance on Tuesday.

Luckily for the Dragons, Jekyll was more prevalent than Hyde during a 49-42 victory over Corry at Corry Area High School.

"We were like two different teams tonight," said Warren coach Lisa Ruhlman. "After a tough start, the girls settled down and showed how they are capable of playing. Corry is the third-place team in our region (6) so this is a big win for us - especially away from home."

At the beginning of Tuesday's game, a Warren victory didn't look likely.

The host Beavers roared out of the gate, building a 12-1 advantage in the first quarter. The Dragons quickly tossed the sloppy play aside and clawed into the Corry lead. By break, Warren trailed by just two points.

Warren (9-5) took the lead for the first time near the midway mark of the third quarter and never looked back, claiming the seven-point win.

Three days after a career-high 26-point performance against Fairview, guard Jaimie Eaton again was the team's top offensive performer. On Tuesday, Eaton finished with a team-high 18 points followed by Sabrina Anderson with 10 points and Kristin Hultquist and Taylor Mineweaser with eight points apiece.

Anderson's big game also included 16 rebounds and four steals and Hultquist blocked four shots. Ruhlman also praised the overall game of Mineweaser at the point guard position.

The Dragons won the junior varsity game, 35-19. Alexa Bupp scored 12 points to pace the victors.

The Dragons will try to make it three straight Thursday when they visit Fort LeBoeuf.
