Youngsville's girls basketball team outlasted visiting Sheffield, 33-27, in double overtime to win its third straight game - this time in sauna-like conditions Friday night at Youngsville High School.
Sheffield looked as though it had the game wrapped up at the end of the first overtime as Youngsville's Amber Fox missed two free throws that would have tied the game, but Katie Chuzie came up with the loose ball and hit a field goal with 1.5 seconds left to force the second overtime.
"I'm proud of (the girls), been proud of them the past couple of games," said Youngsville coach Allison Kitchel. "I think the wins are helping them get more confidence."

Youngsville's Lindsey Lyon (44) blocks a shot by Sheffield's Abby Labesky during their girls basketball game Friday at Youngsville High School. The Eagles defeated the Wolverines 33-27 in double overtime.
"Kudos to Youngsville for sticking in there and playing the whole game out," said Sheffield coach Mike Bancroft. "I'm not taking anything away from (the Eagles), but we had that game and we let it get away."
A power outage in Youngsville earlier in the day caused problems with the school's heating system - it was warmer than normal - and the effects were evident throughout the game as players for both teams had trouble holding onto the ball.
Sheffield held a two-point advantage after the first quarter, up 8-6, then was able to limit Youngsville to only two field goals in the second quarter to take a 19-10 lead into the locker room.
The Wolverines came out cold to start the second half and the Eagles were able to go on a 7-0 to open the third quarter and cut the deficit to three at 21-18 heading into the fourth quarter.
"It's something that our team seems to do every game," Bancroft said. "We have a quarter or so where we just (can't get shots to fall)."
"I told the girls (during halftime) that they needed to pick it up," Kitchel said. "(Sheffield) came at us hard and we needed to pick it back up and, in the end, the girls showed that they could."
Youngsville was able to grab its first lead of the second half with just over two minutes to play at 24-23. Sheffield hit a free throw to tie the game, and the Eagles had a chance to win in regulation but couldn't get the desperation shot to fall.
Ashley Davidson drained two free throws to give the Wolverines a 26-24 lead early in the first overtime. The Eagles' Lindsey Lyon went one for two from the line to make it a 26-25 game. Sheffield hit another free throw to push the lead back to two at 27-25. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, Kristie Steffan, who led all scorers with 11 points, missed the front end of a one-and-one, then committed the foul that sent Fox to the line with less than 10 seconds to play.
That's when Fox missed the free throws, but Chuzie forced the second overtime with a rebound and bucket.
Youngsville shut Sheffield out, 6-0, in the second OT.
Fox led the Eagles with 10 points. Chuzie and Jorie Clark both had seven points and Lyon added six points for Youngsville.
Juli Ely added six points for the Wolverines, while Abby Labesky chipped in with four points and Hannah Vile and Ashley Davidson both had three points.
Youngsville also claimed a 35-22 victory in the junior varsity game. Else Dunn led the Eagles with nine points, while Kerrin Swartz paced the Wolverines with 12 points.

Girard 48, Eisenhower 13
Girard is still one of the best teams in all of District 10 girls basketball.
The Lady Yellowjackets showed that Friday evening, handing the Eisenhower Lady Knights a 48-13 defeat at Eisenhower High School.
"We did a nice job of stopping their penetration, but they would just kick the ball out and knock down threes," said Eisenhower coach Dave Allenson. "They have just one loss this season and that was against (two-time defending PIAA Class AA champion) Villa Maria."
A stifling Girard defense didn't allow an Eisenhower point until the second quarter and limited them to just 13 points overall. Alyssa Peterson was Ike's high scorer with four points and Taylor Ward and Brooke Stanton both finished with three points.
Girard dominated the junior varsity contest as well, 40-12. Courtney Flynn led the Lady Knights with five points.
