Vedo L. "Andy" Andrea, of Rogertown, Clarendon, PA. passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Montefleur Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA after an 8 month illness.
He was born in Warren, PA. to the late Domenic and Grace Fontana Andrea. He was educated in the Warren area schools and graduated from the Naval Communications Institute in Hawaii. He had served three separate enlistments with the U.S. Navy including the Naval Communications in Hawaii and the Naval Public Relations in Washington, D.C.
Andy was well known throughout the area having owned and operated the River Road Gas Station & Restaurant, Sheffield Tavern, The Tastie Freeze in Starbrick, built and operated Andrea Motel and Restaurant in Tiona, PA., and presently the Hillside Restaurant in Sheffield, PA. He also owned and operated Andrea Realty and Development Company, Andrea Gas & Oil, and partner in Andrea and Holden Oil. He was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Warren Loyal Order of the Eagles, Kane Moose Lodge, American Legion, National V.F.W., North Star Masonic Lodge #241, Coudersport Consistory, Sheffield Rod & Gun Club, Communications Club of Hawaii and a former member of the Diamond Grange in Tiona, PA.
He is survived by his wife, Rosezella Reiff Andrea, 2 Sisters Grace Hanson and Lucy Fowler both of Warren, PA., several nieces and nephews throughout the United States, including Bryan Fowler of Florida, Dr. Frank Abate of Alexandria, VA., Richard Hanson, Rosemarie Gregory and Karen Stearns all of Warren, PA.
Andy served as a mentor and friend to Fred Fox who presently has been an employee for 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 Sisters Anna Fontana, Mary Vitello, Theresa Abate and Carrie Stanko.
It was Andy's request that in lieu of public viewing, friends take time with themselves to reflect the good friendships he shared with everyone that touched his heart so much, that is how he wanted to be remembered. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph RC. Church with Fr. Richard J. Toohey, Pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the Sheffield Lions Club or the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Dept. The Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of funeral arrangements.
