Hunting for Cupid
A group of Revitalization of Youngsville volunteers met to discuss activities for Youngsville for the first half of 2011.
There will be a Hunt for Cupid contest Feb. 5-12. Entry forms will be available to those 18 or older, one per person, at Northwest Savings Bank in Youngsville, the Youngsville Pharmacy, and the Youngsville branch of PNC. Contestants will need to find 10 Cupids displayed at local Youngsville businesses. Completed entry forms need to be turned in by 5 p.m. on February 12th at the Allegheny Artistry. Winners will be drawn from correctly completed entry forms. First prizes is Cash, second prize is Dinner for two, and third prize is Candy and Flowers. To date supporting business sponsors are: Heaven Scent, Downunder, Youngsville Pharmacy, Linda Phillips Insurance, Watson Field and Stream/Barbour shop and Youngsville Liquor Store.

ROY officers

In March there will be a Shamrock Sale to support the fund raising efforts of ROY. Many of the grants, to enhance the area, need matching funds, this event will help add to the 'Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow' for Youngsville.
May and June observes Mother's and Father's Day, which the group decided to
raffle off appropriate baskets for each occasion. The Mother's Day basket will be filled with items to pamper Mom and the Father's Day basket will be filled with sport and car care gifts. If you are interested in helping with any of the ROY activities, please call Anita at 814/563-4475.

ROY Officers
Revitalization of Youngsville (ROY) 2011 officers were installed at the Tuesday meeting. Kari Degnan, NWSB Youngsville Branch Manager, was sworn in as President. Incumbents, from years gone by, were also sworn in. The Board of Officers for 2011 are: Helga Laibacher - Organization VP, Joanne Oviatt - Design VP, Anita Cohan - Promotion VP, Sonia Probst - Asset Enhancement VP, Gary Franklin - Treasurer, and Delores Stec - Secretary.
Minutes from the November meeting were read and approved, along with the Treasurer's report for the end of the year. December events and fund raising reports were given, all on a successful note. The GeoCache Woodstock to be held on July 2nd at the Warren County Fairgrounds was discussed and the group sees the event as a great opportunity to promote Youngsville and will meet to plan ROY's involvement. The Bike/Hike trail work should start in the Spring, as monies have been approved. The blighted hardware building next to Huey's will be coming down in the next couple of months. The Youngsville Streetscape project is financially shovel ready and Railroad Street work should start soon, along with the ceremonial entranceway. A public evening meeting will be scheduled in the spring to allow those unable to attend the Tuesday, 8 a.m. meetings to find out what ROY has coming up with streetscape, bike/hike trail, membership, community directory, events and more.
ROY meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the Youngsville Public Library at 8 a.m., usually last an hour, the public is welcome.
Etiquette for
young students
A Youngsville Head Start class recently took a trip to Richard's Restaurant for a lesson in proper restaurant etiquette. Each child enhanced their language skills and good manners, ordering on their own off of a preschool-oriented menu while enjoying a healthy snack.
Love INC
elects directors
Almost 2 years into its establishment, Love INC (Love In the Name of Christ) is in the final stages of electing a Board of Directors and an Executive Director. The development group is excited that so many qualified, Christian people have come forth and agreed to be a part of Love INC, and help serve those in need in the Brokenstraw Valley. From its inception Love INC has depended on God to provide the money necessary to move in this direction, whether it was through fund raisers or anonymous donors. There are 10 churches involved. The group is now seeking a store or building rental and will soon be up and running.
Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Love INC will hold a regular monthly meeting at the Pittsfield Community Center. Anyone who is interested in how it functions and what is going on is welcome to attend.
Girl Scout cookies
Youngsville Girl Scout Troop # 30699 is taking orders for Girl Scout Cookie Sales. Cookies are $3.50 per box. There are 8 delicious varieties available. Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do Si Dos, Lemon Chalet Cremes, Trefoils, Dulce De Leche and Thank You Berry Munch. Scholarship fund
The Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund has received donations in 2010 from: YHS graduating Class of 2010, YHS Over 50 Alumni luncheon, YHS Homecoming Dance, YHS Class of 1960, Barbara Hill, George and Sherri Becker, and Luke Benedict. Additional donations were received in memory of the following people: Waide Ingols, Doris Kreitzbender, Carol Forsberg Camp, Felix Matthews, Charlotte Holcomb, Susan McCullough, Edward Turchan, Beverly Dunham Nelson, Donald Aberg, and Lenore Leofsky. A donation of postage stamps was received from Gil Mason.
The Youngsville High School Alumni Scholarship fund awards scholarships each year to several YHS graduating seniors. In June 2010, six scholarships were awarded, each in the amount of $1,000.

Free Throw Contest
Local Knights of Columbus will sponsor a Youth Free Throw Shooting Contest. All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in this level of competition and will compete in their respective age divisions for the 2011 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.
The registration, contest, and awards will be held on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Youngsville Elementary Middle School (YEMS) on 2nd Street in Youngsville. Participants are required to furnish proof of age, birth certificate, and parents will need to sign a written parental consent form. Entry forms will be available for completion starting at 9:30 until 10 a.m. The contest will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 10:30 a.m. The awards ceremony will follow the contest and finish by 11 a.m.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship has had winners progress from local, to district, to regional, and to state competition. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Remember that a contestant may only participate in one council level sponsored contest each year, meaning that one cannot go to Tidioute, and then come to Youngsville to compete again. Ten champions will move on to the District level competition at Warren in February. For additional information, contact Rick Hutley at 814/688-5000.
Over the past years, close to 180,000 boys and girls participated in 3,000 local competitions just like this event. The Knights of Columbus Youngsville Free Throw Shooting Contest is sponsored by St. Luke Council #13006 of Youngsville.
Library news
Many Federal, State, and Local tax forms will be made available at the Youngsville Public Library beginning in February. "To date, we haven't received all the forms that we've requested because the forms aren't all shipped together," stated Library Director, Kristy Wallace, "but we do hope that most of the main forms will be shipped to us by the first of February. If someone is looking for a specific tax form that we do not have in stock, it is possible to access the form on the internet using one of our public access computers. All our computers are connected to a main printer and cost to print is only 25 cents per page. Youngsville Library has been a host site for VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) in past years, but this year VITA will be operating from the Starbrick Community Church and Youngsville's St. Luke Catholic Church on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays. Wednesday, Jan. 12, was the final day of the Second Annual "Angel Tree" donation drive, sponsored by the Friends of the Youngsville Library. Each year the tree has been adorned with ornaments listing basic items that the library is in need of and their costs. Items range from general donations to copy paper, DVD's, etc. Community members who took an ornament from the tree and donated monies in support of the library received a "Library Angel" to place back on the tree. Both the Youngsville Board and Friends of the Youngsville Library would like to thank all those who generously support this fund raiser and all the community members who continue to support us.
