GIRLS HOOPS: Warren girls drop region opener in OT

January 12, 2011

HARBOR CREEK - Warren's defense sparked a furious fourth-quarter comeback, but the offense couldn't put Harbor Creek away on Tuesday. The Dragons lost their Region 6 opener, 35-33, in overtime to the Huskies.

"Defensively, we played really, really hard, but we struggled offensively" said Warren coach Lisa Ruhlman, whose Dragons have lost two straight after starting the season 7-0. "We missed so many layups and were 7-for-14 at the free throw line... In the end, we couldn't put the ball in the hole."

Warren trailed by nine entering the fourth quarter and outscored the Huskies 11-2 to tie the game at the end of regulation.

Jaimie Eaton led Warren with 11 points, and Sabrina Anderson had eight points and 12 rebounds. Anderson was 3-for-4 at the line in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying free throw late in the fourth.

Warren had good looks that could have won the game at the end of regulation or tied it at the end of overtime, but missed shots.

"I knew (we) would battle back," said Ruhlman. "We just couldn't close the door. It's not how we wanted to start our region at all, and we have a pretty tough stretch ahead of us."
