Throughout January 2011 the students will not have school in observance of Martin Luther King day on Jan. 17 and classes will not be in session on Jan. 24 for a teachers professional development day.

The Sugar Grove United Methodist Church displays purchased and homemade hats, scarves, and mittens to be given to the Elementary students to use throughout the cold winter months.
Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Sugar Grove Free Library is holding Knitting Classes. The next session will begin Jan. 12.. Register Early by calling the Library. Classes will be held Jan. 12, 19, 26 and February 2.. The fee is $35, payable prior to first class. For more information, stop by the Library.
Red Kettle Campaign
Thank you to all those who gave to the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. This year the Sugar Grove community raised $1,153.50 which are funds that will remain in the local area providing toys for kids, coats for the homeless, food for the hungry and countless other programs. Thank you to all for your generous giving.
Many area volunteers, businesses, and organizations have donated to refill our local Sugar Grove Food Pantry. The food pantry is daily in operation to help out those in need in the Sugar Grove Community. If you are in need of food items this holiday season, please contact the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church at 489-3105 for information on how you can make an appointment with a volunteer who can assist you in receiving needed food items.
Community lunch schedule
A community lunch is provided at the local area churches. The first Friday of each month lunch is provided at the Mission Covenant Church. The second Thursday lunch is provided at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The third Wednesday lunch is provided at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church. All lunches begin at 1:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
Numerous mittens, socks, hats, and scarves were purchased and also hand made by the members of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church during the holiday season. The warm clothing items were displayed on a creative Mitten tree in the SGUMC Educational Building. All he warm clothing items will be given to the Sugar Grove Elementary School at the beginning of the new year for students to use.
ARAMARK Food Services, the Food Service Company for the Warren County School District will provide their January Community Cooking Class on Thursday, Jan. 20th. Everyone in the community is invited to attend the cooking class. There is no charge, we do just ask that you register ahead of time by calling 723-6900 ext 2145. More than 70 adults and students attended the Holiday Class in November. This class will have the theme, "Southern Cooking" and have recipes, tips, hands on cooking segments, and samples to taste. This month's class will be held at the Beaty Warren Middle School starting at 6 p.m. Other classes for the remainder of the school year will be held March 22nd - All About Potatoes and May 19th - Summer BBQ Grilling. Sign up for just one or all the free classes held this school year.
