Mitten Tree tradition
The Mitten Tree, created by the late Kaye Onuffer, was set up at St. Francis the week after Thanksgiving and the collection was started for scarves, mittens, hats and gloves from the congregation, some non-congregation friends and Blair generously donated 120 glove/scarf sets.
The week before Christmas they were distributed to both Youngsville's Head Start program and the Salvation Army. Stacy McKinney, Kaye Onuffer's daughter, commented, "We were truly blessed to receive so many donations to give to both charities. My sister, Kelly Gustafson and I will keep the tradition of the "Mitten Tree" alive for many years to come and we both hope and pray that each year we are able to give a little more than the past year. We want to preserve everything our mom did for Youngsville, and also show how St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church serves the community."

Allegheny
Artistry Award
The Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry has been selecting businesses for a variety of holiday awards. Melissa Anderson, Director of Chamber Operations, announced last week that the winner of the In-Office or Interior Decorations category was the Local Artist's Co-op/Allegheny Artistry in Youngsville. The selection was made by an overwhelming number of customer votes.
Irvine
Presbyterian Church
The Church and Social hall were decorated for the following events that took place during the Christmas season. On December 5th a Carol Sing was held, followed by the December 9th Christmas Tureen for the women of the Church and their friends. The tree in the fellowship room was decorated with fruit in baskets and a garland made of dried goldenrod.
Advent services were held every Sunday in December with the lighting of the Advent wreath which features angels made of 5 different kinds of wood harvested from the Church property. The holiday decorations added festivity to the Dec. 18 wedding of Jason and Linda Spicer, catered by the women of the Church. On Dec. 24 Candlelight services were conducted for Christmas Eve. Joanne Oviatt, church member, said, "To those who attended these events, it was like going back in time to the Victorian era. This is the oldest, continuously used Church in Warren County, and is listed on the registry of National Historic Places."
ROY Gingerbread
House Contest
In conjunction with the Youngsville Hometown Christmas, ROY held a Gingerbread House contest. Those participating received a 7" pizza from the Galley Restaurant and a $5 gift certificate from the Youngsville Dairy Queen. Competitors were Savannah Upton, Amber Houben, Kayla Bubbenmoyer, Nana Opare, Justin Hagberg, Allie and Emma Marino.
Local soldier
receives package
Alice Nichols helped with a competition in Youngsville where the students competed to bring in many items for the troops. The third grade won at the elementary school. Ryan Hutley was one of the soldiers to receive a package from the school. He is home on leave and on Wednesday, December 22, he went to the elementary school and spoke with the third grade students. The students asked many interesting question about the sea and his duties on the ship. He told them about the pirates, because they asked, and how he was part of the group that had to deal with them. The students enjoyed hearing about the experiences of Mr. Hutley.
Outreach Club meeting
The club regularity of monthly meetings will be changed to the second Tuesday of every month. Just to clarify, there will not be an Outreach Club meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
