Honoring veterans
In honor of Pearl Harbor Day the AMVETS/AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary hosted a dinner for the Post #50 World War II veterans and a guest. Auxiliary Chaplain, Fae Rouse, blessed those veterans that have served and prayers for those serving now. Commander, Jeff VanArsdale, and National 1st Vice Commander, Gary Fry, acknowledged the veterans on their 69th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and thanked them for their service. Other guests for the event were American Legion #758 Commander Richard Morgan and Legion Auxiliary President Marcy Morgan.
Veterans honored at the dinner were Christy Nelson, John Rupczyk, Donald Frank, Norge Luvison, Walter Cline, Charles Peterson, Frank Coffaro, Robert Audley, Walter Langford. The weather outside was frightful, therefore some of the WW II veterans were unable to attend, missing were: Louis Brunecz, Louis Burr, George Bush, Simion Cristea, Howard Grimes, Roger Hanstrom, Albert Hoffman, William Huber, Gail Hunter, Harry Launer, Ralph McCloskey, Robert Pintagro, Eugene Repine, Bernard Ross, Marvin Sliter, Henry Stec and Morton Williams.

Red Kettle Campaign
You will notice the Salvation Army Kettle has been located outside of the Town and Country Food Center throughout the month of December. Each weekend the Kettle has been manned by volunteers from local area churches in an effort to raise funds for the Salvation Army to help locally in our community. The Red Kettle Campaign helps raise donations for those who need it most by providing toys for kids, coats for the homeless, food for the hungry and countless other programs. When you give to the Red Kettle Campaign the monies remain in the community in which you donate so please come out and support the Sugar Grove Area Salvation Army Kettle. The Kettle will be out throughout the weekends and on Christmas Eve.
EMHS Principal Elf
To promote reading at EMHS, Vice Principal Eric Leamon was elfed on December 22nd! The challenge to the faculty and students of EMHS was to purchase 200 books from the recent Book Fair being held in the library. Mr. Leamon agreed to wear an Elf costume the entire day before Christmas vacation if the goal was met. With just a few hours left student, Wyatt Chase, purchased the books that forced the vice principal to make good on his word. The library qualified to receive $500.00 in books for its collection as a result of the book fair and contest. Thank you Mr. Leamon for being a good sport!
Holiday Break
Eisenhower High School and Sugar Grove Elementary School can plan to be on holiday break from Thursday, December 23rd through January 2nd. Classes will resume on Monday, January 3rd.
Knitting Classes
Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. the Sugar Grove Free Library is holding Knitting Classes. The next session will begin January 12th. Register Early by calling the Library. Classes will be held Jan. 12, 19, 26 and Feb. 2. The fee is $35, payable prior to first class. For more information, stop by the Library.

Eve Services
There will be numerous Praise and Worship services this evening throughout the area marking Christmas Eve. The public is invited to attend any of the following. Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church service will begin at 7:30 p.m., The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church service will begin at 8:30 p.m., The Sugar Grove United Methodist Church service will begin at 9 p.m.,., The Sugar Grove First Presbyterian Church service will begin at 9 p.m. The Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church service will begin at 11:00 p.m. At the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley Julotta as a Swedish tradition, is a Candle-lit Christmas Dawn service. The service begins when the world is still dark and ends as the sun is coming up signifying the coming of Christ, the Light of the World. This service will begin at 6:30 a.m. Christmas morning.
