A local man's passion for music has resulted in a new CD of praise and worship music.

Dave Blick, a member of Praise Fellowship Church in Russell, has been leading praise music services for congregations and writing songs for years.

A recent family marriage has presented him with an outlet for those songs.

Liz Chandler, who is married to Blick's son, Ben, is a singer, musician and songwriter in her own right. She provides a voice for Blick's songs on the new CD, "Given," which was recorded in Buffalo over the course of a week in June.

"Given," named over a song written by Chandler, was produced and engineered by Grammy winner Steve Rokks, of Dallas, Texas, and includes background vocals by three-time Grammy winner Ryan Edgar.

Blick said the CD was a family effort. He plays bass on many of the tracks. His son Nate plays drums, while Ben Blick plays rhythm guitar. A family friend, Andrew Dahlgren, from Sheffield, also contributed bass and rhythm guitar tracks.

Justin Loose, a guitarist from Dallas, contributed lead guitar to the CD.

"I wanted Liz to sing all the songs," Blick said of his daughter-in-law. "Her voice really is excellent."

"It's a really cool project," Chandler said. "We kind of got together and revamped the songs. Some of them were brand new; some of them (Blick) wrote 20 years ago."

The CD was recorded at GCR Studios in Buffalo, owned by Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac.

"That was awesome," Chandler said. "The Goo Goo Dolls actually built it. The bass player still owns it. It's a great studio."
