Carrie E. Nelson, daughter of Robert and Sandra Nelson of Warren, received her master's degree in library and information science in August from the University of Pittsburgh. She graduated form Edinboro University in May 2009 with a bachelor of arts degree in English literature and a minor in psychology. Nelson has accepted a position at Carlow University in the Grace Library in Pittsburgh.

The following individuals are among 475 students at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., named to the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the 2009-2010 academic year. The list is computed annually after summer term, which marks the end of the academic year. It is based on the completion of a minimum of 24 credits with a cumulative index of at least 3.6 out of a possible 4.0. Listed are:

Kurtis M. Sherrard, a senior at Warren Area High School, has been accepted for fall 2011 admission at Penn State University, Mont Alto Campus. He will pursue a major in forest technology and natural resources management. Sherrard is a member of the WAHS varsity swim team and Key Club and is a Golden Dragon recipient. Outside of school, he is an Eagle Scout and active Boy Scouts with Troop 13 and The Order of the Arrow, and is a junior board member at the Warren Public Library. He is active at his church, Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, where he serves as a junior board member on pastoral council, is the fifth-grade religious education teacher, and an altar server. Kurt is the son of Michael and Jennifer Sherrard of Warren.

Brandon Frangione of Sugar Grove graduated with honors from Pittsburgh Technical Institute with an associate of science degree in safety and security administration and a 3.72 grade average. A 2008 graduate of Eisenhower High School, Frangione attended PTI from August 2008 to August 2010. Frangione also was certified as an emergency dispatcher and served an internship with the Warren County Sheriff's Department. He is the son of Sam Frangione of Sugar Grove and Peggy Frangione of Pittsfield.
