FREDONIA American Pianist Thomas Pandolfi will present An Evening of Chopin &Liszt at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House on Friday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. This is a return engagement for the beguiling pianist, who appeared at the Opera House in 2009 performing an evening of music by George Gershwin.
Pandolfi's 2010 Opera House program will feature solo works of Frederic Chopin and Franz Liszt and will include Chopin's Polonaise in A Major ("Military") and Polonaise in A-flat Major ("Heroic"), as well as Liszt's Liebestraum No. 3 in A-flat Major ("Dream of Love") and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 in c-sharp Minor. The program pays tribute to the composers' bicentennial birthdays in 2010 and 2011.
Pandolfi is emerging as a prodigious virtuoso who excels in reviving the core repertoire from the golden age of pianism. Praised for his interesting and innovative programming, his recitals regularly include works by Busoni, Godowsky, Dohnanyl and Chasins; and his orchestral appearances often feature concerti by Paderewski, MacDowell, Moszkowsi and Anton Rubenstein. He also has been praised for his interpretation of the works of George Gershwin, as well as those of the Polish masters, Paderewski, Godowsky, Labunski and Chopin.
