ROCKY GROVE - The Youngsville Eagles cross country team took the opportunity to tune up for this Saturday's region meet by competing at the Rocky Grove Invitational on Saturday.
The girls team delivered a consistent performance and finished in sixth-place in the final team standings while the boys team had to settle for a 12th-place finish.
The strong run for the Lady Eagles was led by senior Devon Gruver who delivered one of her best runs of the season. Gruver's run was good enough for 12th place and was completed in 21:35. Joining Gruver in the top 50 finishers on the girls side were Katelyn Maille (35th, 23:03) and Kate Baker (43rd, 23:40).
The Eagles' fourth runner fell just outside the top 50 in Kellie Lindstrom. Lindstrom was 51st overall, finishing in 24:11. Also competing for the Eagles were Cassie Swartzbaugh (58th, 24:34), Megan Johnson (102nd, 27:09) and Kylie Westover (106th, 27:53).
In the junior varsity girls event, the Eagles got a third place run from Tori Alekson in 28:28 followed by Becca Lindstrom in 12th in 31:35 and Christa Hultberg in 13th in 32:24.
Youngsville's highest individual finish of the day came on the boys side from senior standout Abel Robinault. Robinault covered the 3.1-mile course in just 17:39 - good enough for seventh overall.
Patrick Hoover was next across for the Eagles in 25th with a run of 18:28 and freshman Tanner Rosenberg was 75th in 20:10.
Rounding out the Eagles' varsity finishers were Eli Gruver (98th, 20:40), Max Lalwani (106th, 20:49), Joe Kellogg (125th, 21:25) and Andy Lalwani (128th, 21:31).
Several Youngsville boys also competed in the junior varsity race led by Jaykup Durlin who was second with a run of 20:45. Close behind in eighth was Collin Lehnen with a jaunt of 21:50.
Rounding out Youngsville's JV runners were Zach Ishman (10th, 21:57), Gregg Yost (13th, 22:04), Hunter Proctor (14th, 22:16) and Brandon Reed (30th, 25:34).
Tidioute Community Charter School also had runners competing at this weekend's invitational. For the girls, Alexis Morrison was 44th overall with a run of 23:40 while Clayton Roxberry competed for the boys finishing 83rd in 20:20.
Youngsville will join county teams Warren and Eisenhower in competing in the Region 4 meet scheduled for Saturday at the Warren County Fairgrounds - the Eagles' home course.
