Fall Story Hour at the Library
Fall Story Hour at the Sugar Grove Free Library started Oct. 7. It will be held every Thursday at noon through Oct. 28.
The Story Hour is a four- week program for any community preschoolers. The children receive their first library card, read stories, and learn all about the library. The last week at Story Hour will be a special Halloween costume party. Registration is appreciated.

Library Run

Chicken and Biscuit
Dinner
A Chicken and Biscuit Benefit Dinner and Chinese Auction will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is a donation.
Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Dave Waite, a 34-year member of the volunteer fire department and more recently the Fire Police Captain. He was hospitalized from mid-March until mid-June in Erie with a staph infection. A month after his discharge he was injured in a fall, causing another five-week stay in the hospital. He is regaining his strength slowly.
The benefit dinner will help to aid in his accumulating medical expenses. Items can still be donated items for the Chinese auction by calling Tricia Donnell at 489-3657.

Hearing Scheduled
The Warren County Zoning Hearing Board will discuss a special exception sought for a new Dollar General Store in Sugar Grove. The meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 in the Jackson Courtroom at the Warren County Courthouse.
The hearing is for a special exception and not a change in zoning. The hearing is open to the public.
Knitting Classes
A new knitting class will be offered at the Sugar Grove Free Library by Dottie McLain, of Towanda Arts. Classes will be Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 20, 27, Nov. 3 and 10. The cost is $35 payable prior to the first class. There is a registration minimum of six students.
At the first class, participants will be surveyed to determine goals for the class.
If you are a beginning student or just want to learn the long-tail cast on, bring one skein of worsted weight wool and size eight knitting needles. Bring books, patterns, or projects and lots of ideas about what your knitting goals are. Whatever your skill level there is a place for you here.

Veterans
Memorial Planned
Eisenhower High School Principal Gary Weber is asking those in the community who have Eisenhower graduates actively serving in the armed forces to send a 4x6 photo along with service information to the school office.
The school is planning a project for its display case to honor those alumni from the school who are currently serving. At graduation in June 2010 an American flag carried in Afghanistan with a service company was presented to the graduating class. The flag will also be on display in the case.

Spaghetti Benefit
Dinner
A benefit spaghetti dinner was held for the Dale Harkins family on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church . The Harkins family lost their home at 9215 Jackson Run Rd. to a fire in August.

Reminder
The Warren County School District has a half day of classes today, Friday, Oct. 8, with school dismissed at 12:07 p.m. There are no classes scheduled for Monday, Oct. 11. Staff will report to buildings for a Professional Training Day.
Trick-Or -Treating
The Sugar Grove Borough Council has set Halloween Trick-or-Treating time for Sunday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Trick-or-Treaters are asked to stop at only homes with the porch lights on.
Election Day Dinner
and Book Sale
The Sugar Grove Free Library is planning its Fifth Annual Soup, Dessert and Book Sale Fundraiser. It will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, Election Day,from 11 until supplies are gone.
There will be a choice of cheesy potato or vegetable beef soups. There will also be bread, crackers and a choice of dessert, donated by some of our best hometown bakers. You may eat it at the library or take it to go.
There will also be a huge book sale with many books and audio-visual materials to browse through. The cost of the dinner and the book sale is just a donation to the library.

Christmas Planning
All Sugar Grove businesses are invited to attend a planning meeting on Oct. 14 to organize the Annual Sugar Grove Christmas Walk. The date for the Christmas Walk is Friday, Dec.10, from 5 to 7 p.m. It will be up to the establishment to decide the activity they would like to have, for example, living window, snacks, activities, etc. The AMVETS/Ladies Auxiliary has reserved a place in the Sugar Grove park for Santa Claus.
This is the one and only organizational meeting. For more information, contact Judy Fry at 489-3951 after 5 p.m.
Food Distribution
The Second Harvest Food Bank distribution from its mobile food pantry will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16. The Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown St., is the host site for the northern part of Warren County.
Second Harvest is the major supplier of food to charitable agencies throughout northwestern Pennsylvania. It distributes food to individuals and families facing hard times in 11 counties.
