The third and final Sherman Memorial Lighthouse Tour for 2010 will take place Saturday, October 16. The lantern room at the top of the lighthouse is the best seat in the house for enjoying the fall colors of Pennsylvania. The lighthouse, a unique project conceived by Jack Sherman, local businessman, will be available for viewing as a benefit for the Tionesta Lions community projects. Tours will run continuously from 1 to 5 p.m.
The lighthouse is a tribute to the Sherman legacy. Jack continues to add to the displays in the lighthouse. In the basement is the SeasideVillage, a lighted village in the style reminiscent of a train garden. The lighthouse also features the art of many local artists such as Carol McDonald and Jason Lewis on the level where the lighthouse miniatures are displayed. Tour-goers could dedicate the whole tour to reading the inspirational quotes on the walls of the six floor lighthouse. A spectacular view of Tionesta and surrounding area is provided from the lantern room. All floors and the basement can be accessed by spiral stairs, 76steps to be exact.
Jack's desire to build something truly unique benefits both the Tionesta Community and the Sherman family. The Sherman family has a lasting tribute and place to house family memorabilia and Jack's vast collection of lighthouse miniatures. The Tionesta Lions appreciate the privilege of showing you the distinctive Tionesta landmark as a means to benefit Lions Community projects. Enjoy the spectacular view from the lighthouse. The Tionesta Lions will be here to greet you. Call (814) 755-3672 for more information.
