Fall Story Hour

Fall Story Hour at the Sugar Grove Free Library is about to begin. It will be held every Thursday at noon starting Oct. 7 an running through Oct. 28th .

Eisenhower court

Story Hour is a four- week program for preschoolers. The children attending Story Hour will receive their first library card, read stories, and learn all about the library. The last week at Story Hour will be a special Halloween costume party. Pre-registration is appreciated. For more information on the program or to pre-register you can contact the library at 489-7872.

Benefit dinner

There will be a Benefit Spaghetti Dinner for the Dale Harkins family on Saturday, Oct 2 at the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church from 4 -6:30 p.m. The cost is a donation to the family. The Harkins family lost their home on 9215 Jackson Run to a fire in August. The event is sponsored by the Chandlers Valley Community center and the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church. Take outs will be available so please mark your calendar to stop by and support this family in our community.

Chicken dinner

A chicken and Biscuit Benefit Dinner and Chinese Auction will be held on Saturday, October 9th at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall from 4 7 p.m. The cost is a donation. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Dave Waite. Dave is a 34-year member of the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department and more recently the fire police captain. He was hospitalized from mid March until Mid June for a total of 14 weeks in Erie with a staph infection. A month after his discharge he was injured in a fall causing another 5 week stay in the hospital. Today he is regaining slowly. The benefit dinner will help to aid in his accumulating medical expenses. To donate items to the Chinese auction please call Tricia Donnell at 489-3657. Community Center

Special Meeting

The Chandlers Valley Area Community Center will be holding a special meeting on Monday October 4, 2010. If you have any questions you can call Tammy Waite at 563-9429.

Alumni tent

A Special Homecoming alumni tent will be set up for all Eisenhower High School Alumni at the Friday Eisenhower Knights Football Homecoming game. All alumni are invited to stop by for a cup of coffee and cookies while catching up with former classmates.

Community Safety Fair

The Lander Volunteer Fire Department hosted their second annual Community Safety Fair on Saturday from 1 4 p.m. at the Lander Fire Hall. A large number of service groups were on hand to provide safety information to the general public. The Community Safety Fair is held for children and adults of all ages.

Safety Demonstrations were done this year on Fire Safety, Emergency Vehicle Accident safety, Helicopter Star Flight demonstrations, School Bus Safety and more. Information and smaller demonstrations were available at vendor tables in many areas of safety for home, work, and personal care. The families had a great time traveling the various stations to complete their safety scavenger hunt. Many Thanks to the local police departments, emergency departments, area fire departments, bus transportation and all the other vendors who came to share this important information with the community. Also Thank You to the Lander Fire Hall for once again planning this informative and fun event that can help save a lives.

Knitting classes

A New Fall Knitting Class will be offered at the Sugar Grove Free Library by

Dottie McLain of Towanda Arts, an artist community. Class will be Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 , 27 , Nov. 3 and 10 . The cost is $35.00 payable prior to the first class. There is a registration minimum of six students.

Remember to register early. At the first class we will survey each class member to determine goals for the class. Think about what you want to learn during the classes:

Help with gifts for Christmas, special projects, knitting sweaters, scarves, accessories.

Are there special techniques you want to learn like intarsia, lace knitting, fair isle, cable work? If you are a beginning student or just want to learn the long-tail cast on, bring one skein of worsted weight wool and size 8 knitting needles. Please bring books, patterns or projects and lots of ideas about what your knitting goals are. Whatever your skill level there is a place for you here. Learn to make wonderful garments and accessories with a professional finish.

Hearing scheduled

The Zoning Hearing Board Meeting to discuss the special exception in zoning for a new Dollar General Store in Sugar Grove will be held Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. in the Jackson Courtroom in the Warren County Courthouse. The hearing for Dollar General is a Special Exception hearing and not a change in zoning. The hearing is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

Fall sports

Go Blue and Gold! Tonight is Homecoming at Eisenhower High School. Friday October 1st will be the homecoming game against Cambridge Springs. Kick off will be at 7 p.m.

Other fall sports matches on the schedule this week are on Saturday the Girls Varsity Volleyball will play in the Sheffield Invitational starting at 10 a.m. Also at 10 a.m. the Girls Varsity Soccer will take on Northeast. At 11 a.m. the Girls Junior High Basketball will play West Lake. The Boys and Girls Cross Country Alumni Run is also on the schedule for Saturday at a time to be announced.

Monday, Oct. 4 will bring a 4 p.m. Girls Soccer match up with EHS against Maplewood and at 4:30 p.m. the Knights Junior Varsity Football Team will travel to play Cambridge Springs.

Tuesday, Oct, 5 the Girls Junior High Basketball will play at 4 p.m. in Youngsville against the Eagles, Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country will match up against Frewsburg in an away event, and at 6 p.m. you can catch the Volleyball Team at Titusville at 6 p.m. The Boys Varsity Soccer will play in an away match up on Tuesday evening against Iroquois starting at 7 p.m.

Wednesday Oct. 6 the Knights 7th Grade Football team will play at Beaty in Warren and the Girls Varsity Soccer will host a 4 p.m. match against Oil City.

Thursday Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. Boys Varsity Soccer will play away against Seneca, Girls Varsity Volleyball will play a home match against Youngsville starting at 6 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. the Junior High Football team will take on Youngsville.

Remember all you Knights fans to mark your calendars to come out to the Eisenhower vs. Youngsville Football Game on Friday night ,Oct. 8 held in Youngsville.
