A long-time Villa Maria coach who led the Victors against Warren County basketball and baseball over the past several seasons, passed away last Thursday. Joseph Lunger, 49, passed away after a brief illness, according to the Times-News in Erie. Visitation was held earlier this week.
A graduate of Cathedral Prep and Gannon, Lunger was Villa Maria's only coach in the history of the baseball program. He compiled a 182-104 record, including a PIAA runner-up finish in the 2006 Class A title game. To date, that is Erie County's only state title game appearance.
