Youngsville Borough Council is taking a stand against the closing of one area senior center.
It was decided during Monday's council meeting that Borough Manager Terry Williams would draft a letter of support on behalf of council to keep the Youngsville Rouse Manor Senior Center open.
A recent decision between senior center provider Experience, Inc. and the Transit Authority of Warren County (TAWC) was made to close facilities around the county as part of a multi-million dollar project to renovate the second floor of the TAWC headquarters in Warren and provide a consolidated senior center.
"It's one more thing they're not going to have in Youngsville," said Youngsville Mayor James Farr. "We need something for our senior people to do."
The other senior centers slated to close as part of the project include the Warren Senior Center, Warren Senior Community Center and the Conewango Towers and Sugar Grove senior centers.
According to Farr, the decision to write a letter to the Warren County Commissioners was based on multiple telephone calls he had received from citizens and seniors.
Additionally, council adopted changes to an ordinance regarding future adult entertainment establishments. The establishments must now be located inside an industrial zone and be 1,500 feet from various buildings, including churches and schools. The previous distance was 1,000 feet.
In other business, council approved a 90-day extension for the clean-up or removal of debris on the Williams property on Route 6. Contact was made with the property owner months ago, who never followed through with requests to address the unsafe state of the property, according to Williams.
"It's more than fair," said Solicitor Tim Bevevino of the extension. "It's clearly a nuisance."
Williams said the next step with the property will be based on the action of the property owner.
