World Day of Prayer Service
The Sugar Grove Community will hold their annual World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley. There will be special music and times of prayer for situations happening in our world today. The service is sponsored by our local Sugar Grove Ministerial organization. The churches involved with the service are the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, The Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, The First Presbyterian Church, The Mission Covenant Church, The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church, and the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church.

The juniors and seniors of the Knight Time Players are ready to present KNIGHT TIME LIVE! a series of two-person, one act plays, monologues and jokes. Come along and enjoy on Feb. 25-26-27 at EMHS.

Please come and join us as our students showcase their acting skills and talents through a series of two-person one act plays, monologues, and jokes. They will have you laughing in the aisles and crying in your seat. Production time will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25, 26 and 27, 2010, in the auditorium of Eisenhower Middle/High School. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. The box office opens at 6:30 p.m. Come and join us!
Raising funds for Haiti
Club Crossroad members at Eisenhower High School have been thinking about a way to help the people of Haiti. The decision was made to sell tee shirts for $10 and donate $6 per shirt toward Haiti relief. The aqua colored shirts with "Knights Fight For Haiti" written in a circle around a knight will be on sale through Feb. 22 at the school. Shirts may be ordered through a Club Crossroads member or by calling the club advisor at 730-0013.
"Country Jepurdy!"
Join us for a great evening of fun and laughter as a couple country boys take on a city slicker in a game of "Country Jepurdy!" This battle of wits starts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Mission Covenant Church. The church is located at 7205 Matthews Run Road in Sugar Grove at the intersection of Matthews Run Road and Jackson Run Road. The game will be followed by a country auction of crafts and edible items. All proceeds from the night will go to support the Mission Covenant Youth's Summer Mission Trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Library donation
Mary VanArsdale of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Sugar Grove #50 recently organized a bake sale fundraiser for the Sugar Grove Free Library. With the help of Auxiliary members and their wonderful homemade bake goods, the event was a success. The library continues to welcome volunteers to organize books, clean, or do computer entry.
Spaghetti dinner
The Boy Scout Troop 17 of Sugar Grove, will hold a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 28. They will be serving dinner from noon 6 p.m. at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church Educational Building. The cost is $5 for adult , $3 for ages six to adult, and children six and under will eat free. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, Italian bread, tossed salad, beverage and dessert. Take out will also be available.
WCCS
The Warren County Christian School will hold its kindergarten registration/visitation on Friday, Feb. 26, from 1 p.m. 2:30 p.m. You may visit the school by appointment anytime. Children entering kindergarten for the 2010-11 school year, may come in and participate in the kindergarten classroom for this scheduled visitation day. There is no obligation for tuition required to come in and visit. To schedule your child's visit call the school at 563-4457
Pork raffle
The EMHS Choir Support Club is selling $5 raffle tickets for two halves of a pig to be butchered by Coffaro's Custom Butchering in Sugar Grove according to the winners' specifications. Each of the two winners will win approximately 95 pounds of pork. Dan and Donna Blair are donating the pig to the group's fundraising efforts to help send Senior Choir members to New York City in May 2010. Tickets may be purchased from Senior Choir parents or by calling Donna Blair 489-5657, Cindy Strickland 757-8416, or leave a message for Denise Pearson in the EMHS music room at 757-9357. The drawing will take place Feb. 25.
Humane Society
During the month of February when you bring your overdue books back to the Sugar Grove Free Library the fines collected will be donated to the Humane Society.
During the month of February you can also donate items to the Library to help animals at the Warren county Humane Society. The library is hosting a drop center for Purina Kitten Food, Cat Litter, Spic & Span detergent, Paper Towels and Bleach. Cooking class
The ARAMARK Food Services will hold its third session of free community cooking classes for the 09-10 school year. The Southwest Cooking Night will be held at the Sugar Grove Elementary School on Tuesday night, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. Those in the class will get hands on experience cooking the evening's recipes. There is also a cooking question and answer time along with everyone's favorite, "sample time". Anyone in the Community is invited to attend. To sign up for a spot in the above class, just call the ARAMARK Food Service office at 723-6900 ext. 2159. Remember there is no charge for the class, but just ask that you register so enough materials and cooking ingredients are ready for the class. All classes are geared toward adults but students are welcome to attend. Children attending should be accompanied by a parent or adult. The next free Community Cooking Class will be held in the Youngsville Area in April and the final session will be at the Warren Area Elementary Center in May with an outdoor class on grilling.
Computer classes
Novice classes take some of the mystery out of using your computer more efficiently.
Last week the Library held a class for beginners but, if you are a little more computer savvy you may want to attend a more advanced class. These classes will be held Feb. 23 and 25 from 6 -8. Learn about: Social Networking, on-line education, protecting yourself from Internet hoaxes or how to research on-line.
A $10 fee per class is payable to the library before classes begin to hold your seat.
Classes fill up fast so call the library at 489-7872 to reserve your spot.
The Library will have the Seneca District mobile lab for the month of February and open labs will be available during regular library hours with the exception of the class times mentioned above.
Tax assistance program
The Sugar Grove Free Library is offering free tax preparation for low income, disabled, or seniors. The IRS trained volunteers will file, fill out, and submit your Federal, State, Local, and Rent & Property Rebate forms.
You must call the library at 489-7872 to make an appointment.

Book discussion
The book discussion group will meet again at the library on Monday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. This month's book is "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson.

Quilt raffle
The Sugar Grove Free Library is conducting a quilt raffle to generate operating and programming funds for the library. The quilt can be viewed at the library and was donated by Linda Eckman, owner of Creative Threads in Frewsburg, N.Y. The quilt is queen size with a star pattern in blues and yellows. Tickets are available at the library for $2 each or 3 for $5. Or can be obtained through the library board members.
The drawing will be held Saturday, Feb. 27.
High School Bowl
The Eisenhower High School Bowl Team competed in two matches at Jamestown Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The team defeated the Chautauqua Lake High School in the first match of the day and lost by only one question at the buzzer to the Ellicotville High School. The team will be competing again at JCC on Wednesday, March 3. Team members are Miranda Miller, John Honhart, Garrett Fiscus, Josh Herzog, Jaryd Shield, and Brent Foster.
EMHS Band Boosters
The EMHS Band Boosters will have a 300 Club get together. The event will be happening on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Frewsburg Legion, 9 Meadow Lane, Frewsburg, NY. The cost for tickets is $10. Each ticket provides admission for two people and a free dinner. There will be a live band, Chinese auction and more. Event tickets can be purchased from any Band Booster parent. EMHS parent class on texting safety
On Wednesday, Feb. 17, EMHS offered a one-session program for parents in the auditorium on "Sexting, It's A Big Deal And A Crime." This is an information program to bring awareness to parents that sexting is a sex crime and the long-term consequences can be life altering. A Safe Place and EMHS have been working on this program for students and their parents. This program, being offered throughout the county, promotes safety and it helps avoid possible legal consequences. A representative from Warren District Attorney's office was also on hand for the evening. This year EMHS has focused on raising awareness about bullying and internet safety with students and parents both. Jeanette Walter, the school's Internet Safety Liaison, and Trooper Jeff Walters will conduct a presentation on March 11 for the students. The 8th grade drama club will act out a series of skits related to the Internet Safety Training in an effort to help all students become more aware of the dangers that can occur.
Girl Scouts collecting
Sugar Grove Girl Scout Troop #30549 is collecting food items and used clothing items which they can donate to the Sugar Grove Food Pantry and the OutPost Care and Share Store. The troop may be contacting you for a donation to both of these worthy causes. If you have items you would like to donate, you can contact one of the Girl Scouts in the troop. They are Celina Carlson, Darcy Silvis, Hosanna Senz, Taylor Nulph, Alexis Larson and Cheyenna Borland. Troop leader is Kerri Carlson.
