Mr. Steven and Dr. Sandra Rothenberg of Warren would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Rachel, to Mark Elliot Sonnenschein, son of Richard and Mary Sonnenschein of Olney, Md.
The bride-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Warren Area High School. Ms. Rothenberg graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and two minors, one in biomedical engineering and the other in writing. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. The title of her doctoral thesis is "Tissue Engineering Approaches for Illucidation of Stem Cell and Tissue Interactions and Enhanced Repair and Regeneration in Disease and Injury." Ashley's current focus is enhancement of the therapies for treatment of diseased or damaged tissues, in particular fostering growth in cartilage and bone in arthritis. She recently was awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual Fellowship from the National Institute of Health.
Mr. Mark Sonnenschein is a graduate of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Md. He attended James Madison University is Harrisonburg, Va., where he received his bachelor of business administration degree in information technology and management in 2003. Mark recently received his MBA in accounting from Loyola University Maryland in 2009. He is employed as a senior staff program manager at Verizon Telecom in Baltimore. He recently received a Verizon Culture of Performance Award.
