There would be no buzzer-beaters this year.

At least not heartbreaking ones.

Last year, the Eisenhower Knights boys basketball team lost in the first round of the Corry Christmas Tournament to Titusville on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Having defeated Titusville on Tuesday night, the Knights dominated host Corry, a Class AAA opponent, on Wednesday, beating the Beavers by a 56-36 score in the tourney's championship game at Corry High School

Things started well for the Knights as they jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead, courtesy of an aggressive defense that forced a few quick turnovers.

Corry rebounded, evening the score at 13-13 after the first quarter. The teams played close through most of the second quarter until Garrett Fiscus got off a shot and was fouled with one-tenth of a second left in the half. He hit both foul shots, giving Eisenhower momentum and a five-point lead going into the half.

The momentum that Eisenhower gained at the end of the second spilled over into the third as the Knights stretched their lead to 11 after three, but that wasn't enough on this day. The Knights continued to outhustle Corry and play stellar defense throughout the fourth, stretching their lead to 17 with five minutes remaining and finishing with a 20-point spread.

On defense, the Knights limited Corry to three points in the fourth quarter. Those points came on a desperation 3-point shot with no time left on the clock.

Cody Crosby had a monster game inside for the Knights, pacing the team with 20 points. Jon Schrecongost and Dan Lane scored nine each and Garret Fiscus chipped in with eight in the victory.

Eisenhower coach Steve Norris was "very pleased" with his team's performance, he said. "The kids played great. They knew what they had to do and came out and did it," he said. "We wanted to come out tonight leave with a record above .500 and we got that done, too."

Eisenhower moves to 4-3 overall with the victory. Their junior varsity team also beat Corry, 52-30. Josh Deppas led the Knights with 16 points.

DUKE CENTER - After a 4-2 start, Tidioute Charter has lost three in a row, including both games in the Otto-Eldred Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday.

"We just lost three in a row; that's not devastating, but it's not where we wanted to be heading into (the new year)," said Tidioute coach Dave Manning. "Basically, it's just taking care of the basketball, and we haven't been doing it."

Evan Sahli is close to returning from injury, but the Bulldogs need to figure out what is ailing them in the second and third quarters of games. Tidioute was outscored 85-34 in the second and third quarters, respectively, of the past two games.
