BRADFORD - The Warren swimmers earned their first sweep of the season Wednesday with boys and girls wins over the Bradford Owls at the University of Pitt-Bradford.

The girls improved to 2-1 with an easy 115.5-53.5 victory, while the boys were a 90-68 winner despite losing all but two of the events.

Warren assistant coach Ritchie Lawson said it's nice to have a little depth on the boys team, which got them a win on Wednesday.

In addition, Julian Huey qualified for districts in the 50 free, and the boys 200 medley and 200 free relay teams also qualified.

For the girls, "we've had tons and tons of district qualifiers," said Lawson.

The Lady Dragons went "old school" in the 50-yard freestyle event, going 1-2-3 with Kelsey Nuhfer, Rachel Hasselman and Mackenzie Check.

"That was fun to watch," he said.

Nuhfer led the Dragons with four first-place finishes while Ellis Beardsley and Laura Penwell added three each.

The freshman Beardsley was first in the 500 free as an individual as well as a member of the winning 200 medley relay team with Vanessa Kelly, Penwell and Nuhfer and the 400 free relay team with Shannon, Moyer, Kaylin Passmore and Julie Price.

Individually, Nuhfer was a winner in the 50 free and 100 free and Penwell in the 100 fly, while the duo were also members of the top 200 free relay team with Mackenzie Check and Moyer. Warren also got another individual victory from Chrissy Huey in the 200 IM.

For the Warren boys, the 22-point victory was brought home despite Warren getting just two first-place finishes - from Julian Huey in the 100 free and the 400 free relay team of Seth Johnson, Sinjin Larson, Brad Simmons and Mike Tenney.

The Dragons are off until after the new year, returning to the pool Monday at home against Central Tech.
