Conewango Twp.
Retail theft. Warren-based state police reported Darren V. Green, 204 1/2 N. South St., Warren, was cited for retail theft after being stopped by Walmart employees for concealing merchandise and attempting to leave the store without paying for it at Walmart Store, Warren Commons, Rt. 62 at approximately 2 p.m. Dec. 8.
Aggravated assault. Conewango Township police reported Amanda M. Peterson, Warren, was detained at the Walmart Store by Walmart loss prevention workers after she had committed a retail theft at 7:35 p.m. Dec. 8. Police said while workers attempted to detain her, Peterson began struggling to get away and ultimately bit one of the loss prevention workers causing him to sustain an injury that needed medical treatment. As a result, police said Peterson was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and retail theft.
Assault. Warren-based state police reported Buddy J. Steadman, 32, assaulted Derek L. Black, 50, resulting in Black receiving minor injuries to his face at 6:40 p.m. Dec. 7. Police said the incident is still under investigation.
Farmington Twp.
Crash. Warren-based state police reported Barbara Blair, 65, Sugar Grove, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer on Lanning Hill Road when the vehicle began to slide on the hard-packed snow and icy roadway at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 8. Police said the vehicle slid across the left side of the road where it entered a shallow ditch and traveled onto the raised earthen ground before rolling over. According to police, the vehicle stopped on its roof in a field near the roadway. Police reported Blair was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Warren General Hospital with a minor injury by the Sugar Grove VFD. Police said they were assisted at the scene by Lander VFD with traffic-control.
Pine Grove Twp.
Hit and run. Warren-based state police reported someone was traveling north on Old Russell Road at 6:25 p.m. Dec. 8. Police reported John E. Downs, 41, Russell, was driving a 1999 Ford F250 south on Old Russell Road. Police reported a vehicle came over the center line and struck the F250 with its mirror. Police reported the F250 stopped and the other vehicle continued traveling north.
Pleasant Twp.
Crash. Warren-based state police reported Wallace L. Harding, 46, Warren, was driving a 2008 Ford F250 south on Mohawk Avenue at 11 a.m. Dec. 9. Police said the vehicle slid on the snow and slush-covered roadway in a southeast direction for approximately 180 feet. Police reported the vehicle struck a utility pole with the left corner of its bumper, rotated clockwise against the pole as the pole scraped the left side of the vehicle and came to stop facing southwest. Police reported the top of the utility pole snapped off and the wires fell onto the roadway. According to police, Harding was charged.
Sherman
Possession of stolen property. Fredonia-based state police reported Trooper Scott G. Dibble was monitoring traffic on Interstate-86 traveling east when he observed a 2002 Chevrolet Impala traveling at a speed of 104 MPH at 5:03 p.m. Dec. 10. Police said Dibble executed a traffic stop in Sherman, N.Y., and identified the driver as Christopher R. Holtby, 20, 19 Walnut Street, Warren. Police reported a check of the license plates revealed the plates were stolen and should appear on a Toyota and a check of the vehicle identification number revealed the vehicle to be stolen out of Millcreek Township, Pa. Police said the vehicle was secured and Holtby was arrested for felony criminal possession of stolen property, fourth and misdemeanor criminal possession of stolen property, fifth. Police reported Holtby produced a non-driver photo ID from the PA Department of Transportation. Police said Holtby was cited for unlicensed operation, speeding (104 MPH in a 65 MPH Zone) and switched vehicle plates. Police reported Holtby was arraigned in Sherman Town Court in the presence of Town Justice James VanVolkenberg and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash/$40,000 property bail.
Triumph Twp.
DUI. Warren-based state police reported William Nelson Headland, 46, Pittsburgh, was traveling west on Tidioute/Enterprise Road when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway at 5 p.m. Dec. 5. Police said Headland was found to be under the influence of alcohol upon arrival at the scene. Police reported charges were filed in district court for DUI and summary traffic violations.
