Irma May Ball, 96, formerly of Pike Road in Columbus, Pa. and Colonial Terrace Personal Care Home in Corry, Pa., died on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in the Corry Manor.

She was born in Baltimore, Md. on October 4, 1913, a daughter of the late Ernest and Bessie Burgess Russell.

Mrs. Ball was raised and educated in Baltimore Md. As a young woman she had worked in a candy manufacturing plant and a spice factory in the Baltimore area. Following her marriage she had lived in West Virginia and Bradford, Pa. before they settled in Columbus, Pa. Her main priority was raising and caring for her family. She later worked in the cafeteria at the Corry Area High School, retiring in the mid 1980's.

She was a member of the Columbus Community Evangelical Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her new greatgrandson. Mrs. Ball enjoyed vacationing with her traveling companions. They had been to most of the fifty states, and many international locations including Africa, New Zealand and South America, as well as taking several cruises. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and writing short stories.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis "L. B." Ball in 1981. She was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

Mrs. Ball is survived by two sons, Stuart Ball and his wife, Joan, of Racine, Wis. and Raymond Ball of Corry, Pa.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, eleven greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Les Utegg, of the Columbus Community Evangelical Church and Rev. Brian Eiss, of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Corry, Pa., officiating.

Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, Pa.
