Heavy load snarls traffic

Transformer bound for Kinzua Dam

Traffic was snarled Tuesday afternoon and evening from Sheffield to Kinzua Dam.

A truck carrying a 150-ton transformer for Kinzua Dam caused a variety of traffic problems.

The load was too heavy to drive across bridges on Routes 6 and 59 despite the many-wheeled trailer it rode on. So, a crew from J. Supor and Son Trucking and Rigging of Harrison, N.J., had to put down steel bridges over the roads at weak points. Several tractor-trailers accompanied the move carrying the temporary bridges.

One of the bridges was left in place on Route 6 just east of Keck Street, restricting traffic to one lane. That restriction left long lines of cars in both directions for several hours with some of the J. Supor crewmen flagging traffic.

Other bridges were picked up by heavy-duty fork trucks and put back on the trailers.

The J. Supor and Son crew chief said the transformer was manufactured in Korea and had travelled by ship, rail and road on its way to Warren County.

"How do you guys know it was made overseas"

From the last paragraph of the article:

"The J. Supor and Son crew chief said the transformer was manufactured in Korea and had travelled by ship, rail and road on its way to Warren County."

probably cost less to make than to ship. I wonder how many Americans could have been put to work for one of these. Meanwhile GE cuts over 1,000 jobs. Yeah!!
