Teen pleads guilty to charges stemming from fatality

A New Oxford, Pa. teen has pleaded guilty to all charges stemming from a DUI accident that left another teen dead.

During Warren County Arraignment Court held on Nov. 12, Kyle J. Aumen, 19, pleaded guilty to DUI: general impairment, DUI: minors, careless driving-unintentional death, minor prohibited from operating with alcohol in system, two counts of restraint systems and purchase, consumption, possess, transport of liquor. Presiding Judge William Morgan accepted the plea.

On Sept. 7, Aumen was operating an S-10 pick on Route 6 in Pittsfield Township at about 2:23 a.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel. According to Warren-based state police, Aumen's vehicle drifted off the right side of the roadway, striking an embankment and a patch of trees.

A 17-year-old male passenger from McSherrystown, Pa. was pronounced dead at the scene by Warren County Coroner Jerry Borden. Police did not release the name of the teen at the time of the incident.

Also entering guilty pleas were:

Mark D. Cox, of 34 Second St., Youngsville, to simple assault. Charges of terroristic threats, harassment and criminal mischief were not prosecuted.

Wayne F. Huet, 407 Market St., to persons not to possess/use firearms.

Three defendants also entered guilty pleas during Warren County Pleas Court held on Nov. 12.

Presiding Judge William Morgan accepted guilty pleas from the following individuals:

Mark D. Cox, of 34 Second St., Youngsville, to harassment. A charge of simple assault was not prosecuted.

Heather Ann Morningstar, of Union City, Pa., to theft by unlawful taking. One addition charge of theft by unlawful taking and two counts of burglary were not prosecuted. In a separate case, Morningstar pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and possession of a control substance. Charges of burglary and theft by unlawful taking were not prosecuted.

Robert W. Proctor, of 1515 Market St. Lot 17, to registration/certificate of title, driver required to be licensed, driving while under suspension with DUI, required financial responsibility, stop signs and yield signs, driving vehicle at safe speed, abandonment of vehicle on highway, careless driving, reckless driving, accident involving damage to unattended vehicle or property and operation of vehicle without certificate of inspection. One count of habitual offenders was not not prosecuted.
